Job Summary: Assist primary assistant and Salem Clinic provider in the delivery of health care and patient care.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with possession of a current, unencumbered Oregon State Licensed Practical Nurse License or graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a nationally recognized certification such as AAMA, NCCT, or AMT.
  2. Current CPR certification.
  3. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing patient care.
  4. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  5. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  6. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  7. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  8. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  9. Skill in taking vital signs.
  10. Skill in medical record documentation and recording test results.
  11. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  12. Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  13. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  14. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  15. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions. Ask clarifying questions as necessary.
  16. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing assignments and work pace.
  17. Ability to recognize problems and share ideas for solutions. Good judgment and decision making skills.
  18. Ability to utilize computer programs expected for patient care and the ability to type at least 30 wpm.
  19. Must be a team player, have a positive attitude, and be detail oriented.
Essential Functions:
  1. Attend practice huddles as needed.
  2. Function as a member of the care team being able to perform adequately in each role as assigned for the day (rooming, tasking, etc).
  3. Fill in as primary assistant if the need arises.
  4. Have a thorough understanding of the preferences for the provider(s) working in your care team.
  5. Communicate clearly and professionally with primary assistant, provider, and care team assistant.
  6. Place follow up phone calls to patients as requested by provider to relay test results and/or need for further testing.
  7. Assist primary assistant and provider with management of patient forms (e.g. FMLA, sport physicals etc.).
  8. Conduct clinic services such as pulse oximetry, vision testing, diabetic retinopathy screening, etc.
  9. Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Record pertinent patient information.
  10. Have a thorough understanding of the workflows related to the Quality Metrics. Provide education/information to patients regarding required testing to be done (e.g. Fit Kit testing).
  11. Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  12. Perform selected patient care and clerical duties.
  13. Administer medications including injections as directed by medical provider.
  14. Assist medical provider with examinations, minor procedures, and treatments.
  15. Assist in scheduling of tests and treatment referrals.
  16. Provide After Visit Summary to patient and instruct patient on any follow up appointments or testing needed.
  17. Respond to telephone calls/messages and respond accordingly or gather information and transfer to medical provider.
  18. Assist primary assistant in timely response to in-basket messages.
  19. Adhere to safe principles of lifting, patient transfer and ergonomics.
  20. Step in as medical chaperone upon provider request.
