Northern Trust is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant with strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to join the Federal tax team. The candidate will have broad involvement and exposure across income tax compliance, accounting for income taxes, and planning.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Assist with the completion and filing of the Corporation’s Federal income tax return, including reviewing the book-to-tax adjustments and tax forms prepared by the Corporate Tax staff. Includes tax technical research, and communication/documentation of results. Lead other compliance matters such as extension and estimated tax calculations.
- Assist with the preparation of various aspects of Corporate Tax’s “accounting for income taxes” responsibilities.
- Assist with resolution of any matters raised by the IRS upon audit and responding to IRS notices.
- Identify opportunities to improve the tax return compliance process and better enable technology, including on-going maintenance of the OneSource tax provision and compliance software.
- Participate in and lead special projects on an as-needed basis in the areas of federal, state, and international taxation.
- Proactively and clearly communicate with various internal and external partners, including business unit partners, internal auditors, external tax/legal firms, and IRS auditors.
- Provide guidance and project management oversight.
- Assist with the supervising, developing, and coaching of staff.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years of experience, Public Accounting Firm and/or Industry experience required.
- Competency in Federal tax technical matters, compliance, and ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes.
- Possess technical skills including Tax software (OneSource OIT) and MS Office products.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work in a team environment while showcasing leadership capabilities.
- A Master’s degree in taxation or any other advanced degree is desirable but not required.
- CPA certification is preferred.
