This is a fully on-site position based at our Raleigh office, located at 2 West Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27601
Accounting Tech II position works in the Payroll section of the Budget and Finance Division and will serve with significant concentration in data processing, analyzing data, interpreting policies, and resolving issues that impact NCDA&CS Payroll.
The position is responsible for ensuring that compensation and withholdings for Departmental Seasonal/Temp employees are processed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner. Processing the Imprest Cash payroll- this includes full scope of payroll processing from monitoring entry of data/time to calculations of payments. Preforms calculations of garnishments, annually update/maintain system data and processes transmittals for payment of each payroll - interacting with Cashiers Office and Accounts Payable Office - processing of all checks and disbursement thereof. Generate YTD, quarterly and worksite reports for US Dept of Labor and NC ESC as required. Track and generate calculations of ACA data, maintain data for Salary Overpayments and initiate Debt Setoff with Department of Revenue. Initiate unemployment data/calculations for Imprest Cash/Temporary employees and Integrated HR, Payroll System (Beacon/SAP) employees as needed. These functions must be executed in accordance with Departmental Policies and procedures, Office of State Personnel policies and procedures, Office of the State Controller/Beacon HR/Payroll policies and procedures, pursuant to the Administrative Code and General Statutes of the State of North Carolina, as well as the North Carolina Department of Revenue policies and the Internal Revenue Service.
Other duties include (but not limited to) receiving and completing administrative documents, responding to staff inquiries, preparing, and processing reports, forms, documents, correspondence, filing and maintaining filing system, handle/distribute incoming and outgoing mail and other duties as needed.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, government officials and vendors and provide professional, administrative, and technical assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize daily tasks

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
Associate s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience;
or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
