Job Requirements / Description

Reports to: Vice President of Estimating
FLSA Status: Exempt
Direct Reports: N/A
Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as required to perform job function or directed.
General Overview: At George J. Igel & Co., Inc., an Estimator contributes to the Department's goal of maintaining a specified backlog by performing estimating and sales functions. Our estimators strive for innovation and creativity in our estimating projects. This person should consistently demonstrate our company values of Integrity, Gratitude, Excellence, and Leadership.
Responsibilities

  • Reviews project documents to provide accurate take-off and consistent quantities of items of work;
  • Seeks input from field supervision and Project Management and reviews cost history from applicable software to price items of work;
  • Provides consistent, timely, and clearly defined quotation letters with explicit references to avoid miscommunication and minimize risk to the Company;
  • Accurately completes bid forms;
  • Chases bid projects as assigned;
  • Re-prices work as necessary from negotiations;
  • Develops presentations when necessary;
  • Interacts with subcontractors and vendors in a way that reflects Igel values;
  • Markets Igel capabilities by developing relationships with our clients and engineers;
  • Forecasts future work opportunities;
  • Seeks new work opportunities and takes cold calls about perspective projects;
  • Assists Project Management and Superintendents with projects as questions arise and attends pre and post-job meetings as required;
  • Know and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of various software including Heavyjob, Timberline (Sage), Agtek, CAD, knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments and deadlines, ability to perform intermediate math functions, ability to read plans, ability to identify problems, ability to use Engineer's scale, ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ability to maintain confidentiality, ability to be highly organized, detailed and accurate.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) or four (4) year degree in any area of study;
  • Must be able to pass a drug test;
  • One (1) to three (3) years of civil estimating experience preferred;
  • Must have reliable transportation;
  • Must have MVR that satisfies the company's insurance requirements.
