In response to our rapid growth and expanding reach, we are searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented in-house General Counsel to join us full-time at our brand-new office in the heart of downtown San Diego, CA! We are looking for an ultra-sharp and midcareer attorney who is an expert in SaaS contracts, employment law, and business contracts to provide strategic and detailed counsel on legal matters that impact all 50 states, as well as Canada. This person needs to be perceptive and highly knowledgeable in all aspects of multi-state and international employment law, a strong negotiator, an innovative thinker, and able to advocate effectively for BTQ’s across a diverse range of legal jurisdictions.

Pay Range: $120,000 - $150,000 DOE

Responsibilities

  1. Advise on legal matters impacting the company across all 50 states, ensuring compliance with varying state laws and regulations. This includes overseeing legal issues related to SaaS contracts, employment law, and contract law.
  2. Collaborate with local counsel in different states to address specific legal issues, ensuring that all state-specific legal requirements are met.
  3. Develop and maintain effective legal compliance and risk management strategies that are adapted to the specific legal requirements of each state, ensuring comprehensive legal oversight across all 50 states.
  4. Work within the framework of the in-house counsel rule to provide effective legal services in states where the attorney is not licensed to practice.
  5. Manage and oversee BTQ’s legal matters in high-volume situations typical of the staffing industry, with a particular focus on contract law and collections.
  6. Lead and conduct negotiations, utilizing strong skills to advocate effectively for BTQ’s interests across diverse legal jurisdictions.
  7. Provide strategic legal guidance on multi-state and international legal matters, particularly in Canada.
  8. Oversee the legal aspects of the company's growth, including issues related to high-growth companies, such as scaling, staffing, and regulatory challenges.
  9. Adhere to a traditional legal approach that supports BTQ’s interests and safeguards the company’s legal and ethical integrity.

Requirements:

  1. A J.D. from a reputable law school.
  2. Active California law license in good standing, with a record of upholding professional standards in all jurisdictions where licensed.
  3. 3+ years of experience as a general counsel for businesses, preferably for a service-based organization - staffing industry experience is preferred.
  4. Strong negotiation skills and a strategic approach to effectively accomplish company objectives.
  5. Must have experience in SaaS contracts, employment law, contract law, and collections.
  6. Must have experience in handling legal matters for high-growth companies.
  7. Must have an in-depth understanding of legal frameworks and practices relevant to in-house counsel operating in multiple states.
  8. Must have the ability to manage legal matters across all 50 states.
  9. Knowledge and experience in coordinating multi-state legal issues, including compliance and regulatory matters is essential.
  10. Knowledge of international law is highly desirable.
  11. Must be able to work onsite in San Diego, CA.
