Job Summary

Walgreens is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Micro Fulfillment Center Automation Engineer with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering to join our team in Orlando, Florida. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Automation, Software integration, High Volume Fulfillment technology ecosystem, PLC improvements and a proven track record of enhancing automation processes to achieve faster and more efficient operations. This role will involve designing, implementing, and optimizing automation systems within our facility. This resource will be accountable to maintain production stability of the Orlando Micro Fulfillment Center as a starting point and will be accountable to lead a team maintaining production stability of all MFCs.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Design and Development: Develops, designs, and implements automation solution strategies to improve manufacturing processes.
  2. Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnoses and resolves issues in automated systems, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  3. Owns tracking and delivery of incidents and problem resolution.
  4. System Integration: Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal and efficient integration across MFC systems with existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
  5. Investigates and documents any unusual system behavior.
  6. Continuous Improvement: Identifies opportunities for process improvements. Recommends and develops strategies to optimize automation workflows.
  7. Documentation: Maintains detailed records of automation processes, including design specifications, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  8. Safety Compliance: Ensures that all automation systems comply with safety standards and regulations.
  9. Monitoring & Alerts: Builds an End-to-End monitoring and alerts system to maintain production stability.
  10. Mentors and develops more junior engineers.
  11. May require off-hours work at times of catastrophic event or major incidents.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in and least 6 years of experience in automation engineering OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 9 years of experience in automation engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with ITSM, Monitoring tools, such as Java, Oracle, Azure Tech Stack, MS SQL, Linux, Windows Server, Network, System Telemetry, SSO, OKTA, API.
  • Knowledge of automation software and tools. Experience diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Willing to be based in or relocate to Orlando, Florida.
  • Willing to work off-hours, when necessary, such as during times of catastrophic production events or major incidents.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least (10%) of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in automation.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems and processes.
