Job Summary:
Responsible for greeting and seating guests for the dining room. Oversees dining room and acts as goodwill ambassador to guests.
Essential Functions:
Must be willing and able to:
  • Master functions outlined in HOST/HOSTESS job description
  • Anticipate needs of scheduled special parties
  • Communicate seating needs to service, bus and other host staff
  • Complete all side work when and as assigned
  • Master the restaurant's computer register system
  • Perform comp and void procedures on the register
  • Perform server readings on the register according to standing operating procedure
  • Check to ensure that all server and busser side work has been completed as assigned
  • Train and educate host staff in standing operating procedure
  • Assign service staff workstations if requested to do so
Requirements
Qualification Standards:
Prefer a minimum of 2 years full-service restaurant Maitre D' experience or the equivalent. Must have accurate mathematic skills. After training, must be able to pass an exam in English with 90% or better in each of the following:
  • Menu and specials
  • Wine list
  • Liquor list and specialty drinks
  • Liquor liability laws and knowledge
  • Restaurant layout including table numbers and station numbers
Must be willing and able to:
  • Meet personal schedule requirements punctually
  • Be warm, sincere, outgoing in personality
  • Relate to guests with appropriate sense of humor
  • Maturely interact with guests as goodwill ambassador
  • Remember guest details (names, faces, important information)
  • Provide a persona compatible with established image of restaurant
  • Respond to the needs of difficult guests with patience and courtesy
  • Stand for long periods of time while on duty
  • Move safely throughout all areas of the restaurant
  • Work amidst noise in confined crowded space
  • Work with and account for large sums of money
  • Move chairs, transport high chairs and/or booster seats to tables when necessary.
  • Work nights, weekends and holiday
