What You'll Be Doing
This position under the direction of the infection control committee is responsible for the effective direction, management and operation of the infection prevention and control program, including education of hospital personnel and consultation with the organization, CDC, and the county and state health departments.
The responsibilities encompass compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, CMS, OSHA, and state regulations, outbreak investigation, and overall direction of the infection prevention and control program.
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Develop and implement facility-wide infection prevention and control measures to protect patients, staff and visitors.
- Conduct rounds, discussing and monitoring infection control practices with staff; collect infection data from departments, maintaining records for each case; train staff on implementation of infection control practices and investigate known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control.
- Provide information to hospital committees and department managers to formulate changes in the policies, procedures and/or processes which could reduce the spread of infection.
- Interact with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and occupational health and other professional/non-professional staff members to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems, and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.
- Develop and enforce effective policies and procedures for the department and hospital that ensures compliance with JC, OSHA, CDC, CMS and other county, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Direct and assist in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection control committee, medical staff committees, medical executive committee and the facility's administration and other committees as needed. Responsible for CDRSS, NHSN and other data collection and entry.
- Develop and coordinate the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility. Implement the program by formulating, establishing, and evaluating policies and procedures relating to patient care infection control measures throughout the facility. Perform an annual risk assessment and evaluation of the existing Infection Control Plan and develop action plans from the prior year activities.
- Make recommendations regarding construction, renovation, environmental rounds, and assure compliance with national and/or professional standards.
What We're Looking For

- BSN or Bachelor’s degree in related field with education in nursing, infection control microbiology, public health or related field (required); Master’s in nursing, infection control, microbiology, public health or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in Infection Prevention required.
- 5+ years operational/supervisory experience in acute care facility preferred.
- Valid NJ RN License.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC), or obtained within 2 years of employment, CDC/APIC issued education in Surveillance, Prevention, and Control of Health Care Associated Infections or similar education required.
- Strong business acumen and ability to pick up concepts quickly.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with Meditech a plus!
