The IT Intern's role is to design, develop, document, analyze, create, test, and modify network and computer systems for CTC. This position shall consult with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional applications. This position will oversee CTC corporate network outages and take appropriate measures to ensure the outage does not repeat.

Job Family:
This position has three distinct levels within the family of positions. These levels include Network Administrator, Junior Network Administrator, and IT Intern. All levels of this job-family will be cross-trained and work as a team to service the responsibilities placed on the group in their entirety.
Network Administrator: This position will perform at the highest level of the job family and will oversee the Junior Network Administrator day-to-day functions. This position will focus primarily on the CTC corporate network to support current and future service needs. The primary responsibilities of the Network Administrator include:

  • Designs, maintains, troubleshoots, and implements CTC corporate network to support current and future service needs.
  • Designs, implements, maintains, and upgrades planning of the CTC corporate network infrastructure.
  • Supervision of corporate network equipment physical organization.
  • Maintain and manage corporate servers and any servers necessary to the operation of the network and network services.
  • Research, develop and test all maintenance, software, hardware, and upgrades for corporate network systems.
The Network Administrator will perform Junior Network Administrator functions in addition to the Network Administrator job requirements when required.
Junior Network Administrator and IT Intern: These positions will support CTC's corporate network and telecommunications infrastructure in the day-to-day corporate users with issues and troubles concerning equipment, network, wireless phones, and communication devices. The primary responsibilities of the Junior Network Administrator are:
  • Supports internal staff issues through appropriate escalations, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Supports corporate users with equipment, network, wireless phones, and communication devices.
  • Provide as-needed technical assistance to CTC corporate users.
  • Validate the security and infrastructure of CTC's network at all times.
Supervision Received:
Works under the direction of the Network Administrator and/or the Corporate IT Manager and/or Senior Management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of computer operating systems.
  • Windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, 7, Vista, 8 and 10
  • Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2019
  • Linux/Unix knowledge would be beneficial, but not required.
  • Cisco Router and IOS Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model
  • Knowledge of best practices for security, maintenance, backups, and all proactive aspects of network maintenance.
Knowledge of Internet and network technologies, languages, and platforms such as:

Education and Experience:
Network Administrator:
A.A or technical certificate in computer science or related field, or the equivalent in experience. Five or more years of experience. CCNA certification strongly desired for this position.
Junior Network Administrator:
A.A or technical certificate in computer science or related field, or the equivalent in experience.
These positions must have a working knowledge of network design and implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of network.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to see; hear; talk; sit; grasp; feel and finger equipment to complete assigned job tasks. This position requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The employee is regularly required to be able to lift; climb; stoop; kneel; pull; and push. The employee frequently must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally move items 25-50 pounds.
Travel:
Travel may be required for the purposes of meetings and trainings. Overnight travel may be required if traveling outside of CTC's existing service area.

Work Environment:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, light traffic); ability to work in a confined area (i.e. office cubicle); and ability to sit a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

Requirements:
Technical Support 40%
  1. Supports internal staff issues through appropriate escalations, troubleshooting and maintenance.

Design & Maintenance 25%
  1. Research, develop and test all maintenance, software, hardware, and upgrades for corporate network systems.
  2. Install and configure network software, including security software and protections.
  3. Assist in selecting and purchasing new equipment and software.
  4. Manage receipt of equipment and software and maintain license and support contract documentation.
  5. Maintain network asset management tracking, including disposing of equipment no longer needed according to policy.
  6. Schedule the installation of firmware patches and updates to all network devices and software.
Security & Reliability 25%
  1. While performing all job functions the IT Intern must continually use their best discretion to protect the integrity of all CTC corporate data servers, routers, authentication systems, software, and other data systems.
  2. Develops procedures for adding and supporting internal and external users.
  3. Administer access rights and permissions as required by the business.
Other Responsibilities 10%
  1. Due to rapid changes and advances in the data industry, the IT Intern must continually keep abreast of new programming, training, consulting methods and technologies.
  2. Shares ideas for improvement.
  3. Any other duties assigned by management.
