A Day in the Life

The Senior Software Engineer will be an integral member of the Mapping & Navigation Software Team working with the Medtronic Affera technology. This is a unique opportunity to join a talented team developing industry-disrupting technology. The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing, developing, and testing real-time high-performance visualization applications, can take ownership of key software features while working collaboratively with other engineering teams, and is passionate about working on a product that will have a positive impact on the lives of millions.

Experience with regulatory compliance and security protocols specific to medical software (e.g., HIPAA, FDA regulations) is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver at heart, adept at diagnosing and resolving complex problems while optimizing for performance. With a passion for continuous learning and improvement, they stay ahead of the curve, leveraging the latest technologies and methodologies to drive efficiency and innovation within the software development team.


Primary Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, real-time visualization applications in a collaborative team environment.
  2. Take ownership of key software features, driving their development from concept through to production.
  3. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, QA, and DevOps, to ensure seamless integration and high-quality software delivery.
  4. Optimize software performance, ensuring low latency, high reliability, and scalability in a regulated environment.
  5. Implement and maintain robust software testing strategies, including unit, integration, and automated testing to ensure high-quality code.
  6. Document software designs, coding practices, and development workflows to maintain high levels of clarity and consistency within the team.
  7. Stay current with the latest developments in software engineering, particularly in the areas of medical technology, visualization, and real-time systems.
  8. Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and methodologies within the team.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Extensive experience in real-time software development and optimization.
  2. Proficient in programming languages such as C++, Python, or similar.
  3. Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
  4. Experience with software version control systems, such as Git.
  5. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  6. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  7. Experience with graphical rendering libraries (e.g., OpenGL, Vulkan) and/or game engine technologies (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
  8. Proficiency with Agile development methodologies.
  9. Experience with cloud-based platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  10. Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices, including automated testing and deployment.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $120,000.00 - $180,000.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
