Purpose/ Summary
The Project Engineer (PE) plans, designs and implement manufacturing methods/processes to improve efficiency during the product development phase and the transition into the production phase. Maximize product process efficiency by analyzing the layout of equipment, workflow, and manufacturing methods/processes. Determine the equipment, material, tooling and skills required in order to achieve manufacturing goals including on-time delivery, quality, profitability, and inventory levels in accordance with customer requirements and product specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assure/verify compliance of manufacturing methods/processes with approved methods/processes and quality requirements/standards as defined on drawings, customer specifications, and customer contracts/purchase order requirements through the sign-off of Backup Sheets, Character Control Sheets (CCS), Inspection Record Sheets (IRS), Tech Plans, internal drawings, and Qual. Plans for purchased items.
  • Review and approve tool requests, the associated designs and IRS's, and calibration data for existing and new tooling that is used to manufacture all assigned product.
  • Review and sign-off of product repairs, reworks, and NMR disposition/Root Cause validation as developed by MPC and Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Manage the accurate generation of first article data packets.
  • Create and manage all required Bills of Material in support of assigned product.
  • Manage the incorporation and maintenance of customer issued drawing changes into our systems and processes.
  • Oversee the disposition of pre-SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Requests) and SCAR non-conformances and take appropriate actions to support all respective vendors, to include site visits as required by our Purchasing dept.
  • Manage the collection and submittal of key characteristic data, along with the required preparation efforts for recurring product audits.
  • Monitor and respond accordingly to CP & Cpk values for critical dimensions identified internally and by our customers.
  • Perform the required Purchase Order Requisition Approvals and properly flow down the requirements of our customers to our vendors.
  • Review assigned customer contracts, identifying any concerns with requirements listed and acknowledge review by completion of our QF-1 form in accordance with the Quality System.
  • Communicate, through our customers' quality systems, producibility and drawing problems, requesting changes as required, along with directed dispositions to prevent repetitive concessions from being required.
  • Collaborate with our Engineering Project Scheduler and other engineering and shop personnel to develop and maintain new product and design change milestones.
  • Review and approve the manufacturing process for customer identified Special Processes along with the assigned Manufacturing Process Control (MPC) personnel.
  • Communicate requests for process changes/introductions through our customers' formal systems and monitor/manage all serial number and/or partial releases made on affected product.
  • Prepare for and lead efforts pertaining to customer product reviews & audits, to include Production Readiness Reviews when applicable.
  • Oversee required validation on all root cause analysis efforts and follow-through on assigned/accepted corrective actions.
  • Upon approval of any Nonconforming Material Report (NMR), ensure submittal to Document Control immediately occurs.
  • Ensure the use and approval of Inspection Method Sheets (IMS) for new and revised tools along with CNC and CMM programs.
  • Ensure completeness of milestone plans and monitor/verify tasks for assigned products are completed accordingly.
  • Lead efforts pertaining to customer escape research utilizing all other engineering members to ensure accurate data is quickly available for review by the Engineering, Quality and Program Managers and the Directors.
  • Perform reviews of and respond to manufacturing cost data ensuring that the right plans are in place to meet the cost goals of the company for assigned products.
  • Perform duties/responsibilities related to this position as assigned by the Engineering Manager and/or Director
  • Responsible to ensure Phase 3 and Phase 4 tasks of NPI process are completed and Gate 3 and Gate 4 approvals are obtained, as applicable, for assigned products.
  • Perform all assigned Workstation Audits in accordance with the published schedules.
  • Recommend safety & ergonomic improvements in our material handling devices, manufacturing tools, and workstations to accommodate best practices for shop floor personnel.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related technical field. Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing industry and related industry. Must have working knowledge of the CAD/CAM system use, shop mathematics, sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, inspection methods, and special processes including plasma coatings, laser drilling, and airflow measurement. Must be proficient using Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
