JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State University Libraries invites applicants for the position of Part-time Evening Library Services Assistant at Penn State Schuylkill's Ciletti Memorial Library. The person in this position will be a front-line provider of service and support to a diverse student body, as well as faculty, staff, and community borrowers.
The successful candidate will provide excellent personalized service to all library users, and possess a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They must also demonstrate superior communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and also independently. Dependability, flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail are critical to ensuring delivery of high-quality services. Confidence working with web-based applications and Microsoft Office products is expected.
This position is for approximately 20 hours/week. The selected candidate will work Monday-Thursday and cover the closing shift (until 8pm). Days and hours are subject to change according to library usage patterns and departmental needs (e.g., over breaks and holiday periods).
Responsibilities:
  • Provide front-line support to assist library users with common borrowing, information, and technological needs.
  • Oversee library space and perform closing duties.
  • Oversee student workers during assigned shifts.
  • Assist with outreach activities (e.g., planning, promotion, set-up, facilitation)
  • Other duties as assigned. As part of a small team, staff in the library are cross-trained to complete duties in other areas as needed. This position is expected to work collaboratively with University Libraries and Penn State Schuylkill colleagues and departments.
Required qualifications:
  • Typical educational requirement is an associate degree or higher plus one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently share knowledge with others through oral and written communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that enable positive patron and colleague interactions as well as successful collaborations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High degree of reliability and accountability in managing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Previous library or public service experience is helpful but not required.
