Summary

The Director, Los Angeles works closely with employees at all levels, clients, design partners, and subcontractors to deliver successful projects while maintaining safety, quality, financial objectives, and contributing to the company's regional growth. This role involves leading multiple teams, optimizing team performance and supporting the development of staff members, fostering lasting client relationships, facilitating geography and market sector growth, while ensuring safety compliance. Responsibilities include business development, strategic planning, preconstruction planning, operational and financial oversight, scheduling, and crisis management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Division and Geography success and growth through strategic planning, evaluation, and implementation, along with Division Leadership and other geography leaders.
  • Engage in project pursuits by contributing to early-stage planning, RFP preparation, interviews, outreach, and presentations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with design partners, clients, and industry stakeholders, including attending industry conferences and networking events to promote business growth.
  • Perform and support teams in development and maintenance of project budgets, financial reports (PFR), pending matters reports (PMR), as well as prepare and forecast project and overhead projections.
  • Negotiate owner contracts and change orders, approve subcontractor budgets and subcontracts, support teams in change order negotiations as needed.
  • Ensure timely submission and receipt of payment from project requisitions from all project teams, in alignment with projections.
  • Support operations teams by providing oversight and input on job estimates, schedules, logistics, and phasing plans, value engineering, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Review legal and risk management documents along with overall risk profile management for geography, projects, and teams.
  • Foster a safety culture with all teams - emphasizing the importance of safety, helping teams evaluate projects/jobsites, discussing challenges with trade contractors, and conducting regular safety walks.
  • Participate in project safety meetings and ensure team alignment on safety protocols.
  • Able to lead project schedule development and time impact analyses, ensuring alignment with the project team and key trades, including Pull Planning sessions to optimize project timelines.
  • Oversee quality control and ensure project deliverables are met on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of commercial construction industry experience with a strong understanding of financial, safety, and scheduling aspects. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary. Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects at a time.
  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, preferred.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with customers by meeting or exceeding their requirements and expectations.
  • Manages essential functions effectively by consistently driving for quality, profitable, safe, and timely results on the assigned project.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrates solid presentation skills and verbal/written skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools and software, such as email, internet, Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook), Smartsheet, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Procore, and digital documents.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain client and partner relationships.

The base compensation range for the role of Director in Los Angeles, CA posted above is $205,000 to $230,000 annually.
