Job Requirements / Description

As a System Engineer within the NDI team, you will be responsible for the design, procurement, configuration, deployment, testing, and troubleshooting of air, land, sea, and subsea surveillance and interdiction systems. The position requires practical and hands-on skills with network racking and stacking; various cabling work for network, power, and connectivity; network and firewall design and configuration; and systems design and integration work with command-and-control software packages. These systems integrate surveillance technologies such as radars, EO/IR cameras, AIS, sonars, wireless PTP backhaul products, networking/communications hardware, and operational systems/centers. This job requires both CONUS and OCONUS travel for the installation of these systems. This position works under general supervision and direction of the Director of Engineering and will be expected to support a broad range of NDI programs and work closely with various engineering disciplines and field service engineers.

This position may be hybrid or in-office at the NDI office in San Diego, California.

Duties and Responsibilities

SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

  • Develops/Validates system requirements and system/subsystem design (including networking architectural design) based on customer/program budgets
  • Maintain configuration control of system and subsystem specifications
  • Utilize controlled documentation and government standards, application guides, and industry best practices to support the design, integration, and installation process
  • Support acquisition of hardware and software from suppliers/vendors
  • Support and participate in technical design, review, and troubleshooting activities
  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, and subsystems
  • Document component, system, subsystem operations, ICD’s, Interconnect Diagrams, Mean Time Between Failure, and track End of Life
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services
  • Familiarity with DoD Risk Management Framework
  • Design and develop prototypes to reduce development risk
  • Use of computer aided design/analysis software in performance of assignments
  • Ability to work independently and provide regular reporting of progress and status
  • Participate in proposal development and cost estimating activities
  • Support, communicate, and attend engineering, customer, and business meetings
  • CONUS/OCONUS travel required (estimated 10% annually)

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of professional system engineering experience
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous workloads effectively, including adapting to changes, planning, organizing, and prioritizing work
  • Ability to communicate effectively in distributed work environment
  • Microsoft 365 Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint Experience

Preferred Capabilities

  • Familiarity with various surveillance sensors such as EO/IR sensors, S/X-Band radars, sonar, AIS, ADS-B and related Command & Control software suites
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • MS Project or Smartsheet Project Management Software
  • Cybersecurity Experience in Commercial or DoD (NIST/CMMC)
  • Experience with CSfC network solutions
  • Tower climbing certification, or willingness to earn

Other Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must possess a US Passport and be willing to travel both CONUS and OCONUS
  • Must possess or be able to achieve a current DoD secret security clearance

Work Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or other engineering discipline
