Helix Earth Technologies is an investor-backed startup seeking a Director/VP of Engineering who will report directly to the CEO. The position will be onsite and located at our Houston, TX offices. You will need to be capable of working hand-in-hand with the C-suite to establish and execute company-level technical and business objectives, acting as a systems architect, driving daily engineering progress, and providing technical guidance to individual engineers to help solve challenging problems. Job Responsibilities

  • Establishes the overall objectives and initiatives for engineering the Company’s hardware products and development activities.
  • Manages the engineering team to ensure accurate, timely, and cost-effective product development and implementation, including testing and documentation, to provide solutions designed for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Creates product specifications and requirements, providing input and engineering expertise regarding the nature and scope of current and future product lines.
  • Appraises new product ideas and product or packaging changes.
  • Works with internal and external customers and technical teams on product enhancements/modifications and new product ideas.
  • Oversees activities to improve existing designs from an engineering/design perspective. Analyzes product requirements and product development programs.
  • Prepares return-on-investment analyses as needed.
  • Works with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
  • Grows the engineering team by bringing excellent talent into the company.
  • Makes final decisions on operational matters and ensures effective achievement of objectives.
  • Provides high-quality technical support oversight to customers, prospective customers, and internal staff to ensure optimal product performance.
  • Independently troubleshoots, researches, and resolves complex problems by analyzing product and network data.
  • Motivates the team to deliver complete products, including documentation, training, and support materials.
  • Occasionally visits customer sites to gather input on product performance and future customer needs.
  • Works with external partners to ensure our products are cost-effective and designed for manufacturing.
  • Provides mentoring and training for engineering department employees.
  • Participates in product development by providing feedback on design features and product supportability.

Qualifications

  • B.S, M.S, or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of industry experience is preferred, with a proven track record of managing teams to deliver hardware products to market on time and within budget.
  • HVAC hardware industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience building products in a lab with previous startup experience.
  • The ability to think creatively and devise novel solutions.
  • The ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Maintenance of a persistent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal skills and excellent organizational skills.
