Job Title : Manufacturing/Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift

Reports To : Sr. Manager Manufacturing Operations, Foot & Ankle

Location: Houston (onsite)

Business Unit Description : Foot & Ankle


Role Summary :

The Foot & Ankle division is a growing and dynamic team that is looking for someone who is ready to build and lead our night shift manufacturing team. The successful candidate will train personnel and troubleshoot issues that occur in the Manufacturing area. This includes but is not limited to maintaining, servicing, and operating all machine shop equipment; ensuring that safety is maintained; training and developing other manufacturing employees; and interfacing with Engineering and other stakeholders regarding manufacturing needs in order to ensure the most cost-effective manufacture of quality products. The Night Shift Supervisor has the authority to make decisions regarding issues related to Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of this role. Other related duties may be assigned to meet the business need.

  • Evaluate, schedule, assign and manage work order requests within the assigned area
  • Manage the adherence to prescribed procedures to ensure product quality meets or exceeds planned goals
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specification, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Sets up mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements
  • Able to set up all three machine types
  • Serve as subject matter and technical expert for team with regards to issues on the shop floor
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to SOP’s
  • Monitoring inventory levels by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock, notifying manager of need for stock orders, and verifying stock once received
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specification, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machine (CMM)
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gages, and gage blocks
  • May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance
  • May confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or quality staff to resolve machining, assembly, or other potential problems
  • Participate in quality control/ assurance related activities
  • Perform equipment maintenance activities as required
  • Create set-up sheets for machinists to follow during the manufacturing process
  • Determine sequence of operations in a program
  • Write CNC programs and modify existed programs for increased efficiency
  • Monitor CNC programs to make sure that they meet all blueprint requirements
  • Provide training to machinists for all applicable programs and processes
  • Check completed programs by running the process on the machine
  • Participate in manufacturing activities that relate to product development
  • Set-up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot CNC machines and code as required
  • Analyze production and quality control to detect, correct, and prevent problems
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, utilizes resources efficiently and effectively takes responsibility for own learning needs


Minimum Basic Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience leading a manufacturing team
  • Previous manufacturing work in medical devices or a related field including 5 years’ experience with CNC Swiss machines
  • Familiar with 5-7 axis CNC Mills and Lathes
  • Familiar with Solidworks and ESPRIT software
  • Ability to read and understand G-code and perform program edits
  • Must have good understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to articulate clearly; professional oral and written communication skills
  • Must be proficient in general computer programs such as Microsoft Office, and CAD software
  • Strong planning, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Must have solid mathematical skills
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints


Preferences

  • CNC programming skills
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience on a Swiss machine

  • Frequent to constant lifting or exertion of force of up to 35 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • The employee is constantly or frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, frequently to climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to judge dimensions and spatial relationships
  • Periodic weekend or evening work
