Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to provide psychotherapy services for the Translational Psychedelic Research Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Department of Psychiatry at Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute, San Francisco, CA. We believe that strong relationships are central to good mental health and well-being. Our mission is to develop novel pharmacological and psychological interventions for mental illness that enable patients to strengthen their connections to other people and the world. We are developing several studies combining novel pharmacological interventions with psychotherapy to target difficult to treat psychiatric conditions including depression in bipolar affective disorder, existential distress in neurodegenerative disorders, chronic pain disorders, social deficits, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
The clinical social worker will provide evidence-based psychotherapy under the research protocol. Under the supervision of senior clinical staff, the incumbent will provide psychotherapy, using evidence-based practices that are effective for the service population. Incumbent will also provide crisis intervention and emotional support to patients with mental health disorders.

Required Qualifications
  • CSW II: Master's degree from an accredited school of social work or related field and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as a clinical social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position or equivalent training/experience
  • The Clinical Social Worker II must be able to move between different treatment approaches (clinical case management versus evidence-based, trauma-informed psychotherapy) depending on the needs of the client.
  • The Clinical Social Worker II must demonstrate cultural humility and a strengths-based, recovery philosophy.
  • Excellent clinical skills; experience with formulating client treatment plans, providing referrals and follow-up to clients. Minimum two years of experience
  • Excellent communication skills for working with patients, clinic staff, and research staff
  • Experience working with populations that are diverse in gender, sexual orientation, language, country of origin, race, and ethnicity as gained as part of study or while in school, or internship in a similar institution.
  • Experience working with survivors of trauma, as gained as part of study or while in school, or internship in a similar institution.
  • Sensitivity in working with survivors of trauma who have complex psychosocial needs and substance use problems.
  • Excellent documentation and clinical skills, ability to set priorities, work independently, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Experience doing case management, outreach, and home visits as gained as part of study or while in school, or internship in a similar institution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with standard research methodology and prior interviewing experience to ensure both sensitivity and quality data collection.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese
  • Knowledge about and previous experience with mental health issues in adults. Knowledge about, experience with and ability to perform evidence-based short term. Problem Solving Psychotherapy in research settings using structured manualized therapies. Knowledge of local mental health facilities and resources.
License/Certification
  • Possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as a clinical social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
