Director Inpatient Oncology

Location: Chicago, IL

Our client is a nationally ranked academic medical center and teaching hospital located in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The hospital provides a total of 900 inpatient beds and encompasses more than 3 million square feet of medical building space.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital is ranked as the sixth best hospital in the United States, ranked number one in the Chicago metro area, and ranked number one in the state of Illinois according to the 2016 U.S. News & World Report America's Best Hospitals "Honor Roll" report.

Northwestern Memorial is also ranked among the best in the nation (all in the Top 20) in 13 specialties including: neurology and neurosurgery; orthopaedics; diabetes and endocrinology; urology; digestive disorders (gastroenterology); gynecology; geriatrics; heart (cardiology) and cardiac surgery; pulmonology; cancer (oncology); nephrology (kidney disorders); ear, nose and throat (otolaryngology); and as high-performing in rheumatology and ophthalmology.

They have an immediate need for a Director for their World Class Oncology department. The position will oversee 100+ beds, 3 floors and have 3 managers reporting to it! It is also one of only 47 NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States!

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Build trusting, collaborative relationships with the entire interdisciplinary team.
  2. Develop and engage team towards a shared vision.
  3. Create an environment which recognizes and values differences among team members.
  4. Engage team in shared decision-making.
  5. Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, patient care delivery systems and innovations.
  6. Lead innovative, quality improvement initiatives and achieve defined outcomes.
  7. Establish own development plan and track progress towards goals.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Masters of Science Degree in Nursing or related field.
  2. Relevant leadership experience with progressive responsibilities in management/administration.
  3. Current licensure to practice professional nursing in Illinois or eligible.
