The Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine department strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the department continues to have a long and successful record in training undergraduate, master and graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
This Research Scientist is responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising research at a high level by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, extensive experience and judgement this role will plan independent research to design, develop, collect, analyze, interpret data and report cancer research related to tumor microenvironment. The Research Scientist will publish results, represent the University at conferences and meetings, develop new theories and methodologies, and will lead and direct the work of lower level research staff, while transferring technical expertise. The candidate will utilize several techniques including animal tumor models, immunophenotyping, flow cytometry, RNA -seq, ChIP-seq, molecular cloning, site directed mutagenesis, RNA and protein analysis.
Other duties include:
· Interprets assay results and summarizes findings.
· Assists with manuscript preparation.
· Assist preparation of grant applications.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
