Compliance Specialist, Conflicts of Interest

Who You'll Work With
You will be based in one of McKinsey's offices in the United States as part of McKinsey's Risk and Compliance function, whose mission is to enable McKinsey's client impact and innovation while managing risks to the firm, our clients and our people. The function is an integrated global team with backgrounds including communications, consulting, diplomacy, government affairs, and law. You will report to the conflicts manager.
Your Impact Within Our Firm
You will undertake conflict of interest checks on new engagements submitted across the global firm. Your responsibilities include:
- Carrying out conflict of interest checks in the firm's conflicts database on clients and any involved parties identified on each new engagement.
- Performing research on entities in external sources.
- Identifying, clearing and elevating conflicts issues with recommendations on how to address them.
- Running robust conflicts of interest checks and analyzing data independently.
- Conducting conflict of interest search strategy and discounting false positives from conflicts reports.
- Collaborating with client service risk colleagues on engagements requiring higher level risk reviews.
- Training and developing junior colleagues.
- Supporting or leading conflicts or compliance initiatives to continually improve the firm's capabilities.
Your Qualifications and Skills
- Undergraduate degree.
- Must be a US Citizen (due to engagement work for US Government).
- 3+ years of professional experience on complex problems related to business risk.
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity through professional training, advanced degree, or professional impact.
- Experience or strong interest in due diligence, risk management, and compliance.
- Prior experience of conflicts of interest analysis and systems within accounting, financial services, or legal sectors is highly advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; demonstrable ability to operate with little oversight.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing and balancing competing, time-urgent demands.
- Proven track record of developing and mentoring junior colleagues.
- Ability to cultivate trust-based, peer-counselor relationships in a highly matrixed environment.
- Strong personal resilience, including comfort and credibility in challenging discussions with senior colleagues.
- Comfort with, and preferably advanced knowledge of, Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word); aptitude for involvement in database design is a plus.
- Outstanding English written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to travel on occasion; ability to work across several time zones as needed.
