ABOUT IMAN:
The Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) is a community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts, and operating a holistic health center.
IMAN incorporated as a nonprofit in 1997 through the drive of people directly affected by and deeply invested in social issues affecting communities of color living on Chicago’s South Side. Since that time, IMAN has steadily grown and, in 2016, opened a second office in Atlanta to continue mobilizing a cross-section of people committed to this mission.
The organization models an integrative approach that employs holistic interventions to address a spectrum of structural and systemic injustices, incorporating primary and behavioral health; artistic expression; leadership development; organizing and advocacy; housing; and job training, in an effort to substantially increase the quality of life for people in marginalized communities.
OVERVIEW:
As an integral part of IMAN’s leadership team, the Chief Health Center Director (CHCD) will operate as an overseer in planning and operationalizing organizational goals in the Health Center and IMAN. The CHCD is responsible for the oversight, administration, planning and development of high-quality FQHC services, along with HC leadership, provided by the IMAN Health Center and for defining the best structure for that oversight. The CHCD will have an internal and external focus for the health center, being the guiding position for IMAN and Healthcare priorities. The CHCD provides direction for day-to-day operations of the health center and its staff and provides administrative supervision for the Medical Director, Behavioral Health Director, Director of Revenue Cycle, and collaborates with the Director of Operations. The CHCD will be a member of IMAN’s chief crew and steering committee.
The CHCD serves as the visionary leader of IMAN’s Health center overseeing all aspects of the organization's operations, strategy, and growth. The CHCD is responsible for setting the strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability, fostering a culture of excellence, and representing the organization within the community and maintaining a deep knowledge of FQHC guidelines and healthcare industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership:
- Build respectful and trusting relationships with the Board and with clinical, behavioral health operational, and frontline staff. Oversee health center in a way that realizes the mission of the organization, and ensures excellence, while encouraging innovation.
- Collaborate as a team member in developing IMAN’s overall business strategy; participate in clinical practice program development and in the implementation of strategies for all Health Center practices.
- Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with IMAN’s mission and goals.
- Provide visionary leadership to drive innovation and growth in healthcare services.
- Provides direction and leadership in the development and communication of IMAN health center policies and goals; recommends changes in administrative policy to carry out IMAN objectives more effectively/efficiently.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations to ensure efficient and effective delivery of healthcare services.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvements as necessary.
- Optimize resource allocation to maximize operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Solicit cooperation of department heads in studies to maximize the use of staffing, supplies and equipment while maintaining or improving the quality of patient care;
Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage the health center's budget, ensuring financial sustainability.
- Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to achieve financial goals.
- Establish long-term financial sustainability by building on existing revenue models and strategically assessing and developing new models and revenue streams.
- Review financial and non-financial reports to devise solutions or improvements with applicable key organizational leaders.
- Assist, as required, in raising additional capital at appropriate valuations to enable the organization to meet growth and market share objectives. Identify and secure new public and private grants.
Quality Assurance and Risk Management:
- Maintain high standards of patient care and service quality.
- Implement quality assurance programs, and ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring IMAN’s clinical operations and its programs; initiate change where required; supervises completion of regulatory filings of services; signs and releases required regulatory filings.
Staff Management:
- Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract, recruit and retain required members of the executive team not currently in place; provide mentoring as a cornerstone.
- Provide leadership and guidance to a diverse team of healthcare professionals.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, including patients, local organizations, and government agencies.
- Collaborate with community leaders, government officials, and healthcare partners to address community health needs.
- Represent the FQHC within the community and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
Technology and Innovation:
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology and innovation to enhance healthcare delivery.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in public/community health and/or healthcare business-related field, or equivalent of seven years of senior level (director) healthcare experience.
- Minimum of five years as a senior healthcare leader (director), preferably in an FQHC or other healthcare environment.
- Proven experience in a senior management role with a strong understanding of not-for-profit finance
- Strong collaborative/networking skills
- Firsthand knowledge of health service operations/administration
- Firsthand knowledge of FQHC program requirements
- Experience identifying and securing private and public funding.
- Experience working effectively with multi-cultural teams and target populations
- This position necessitates physical presence (three to four days) at the health center for the duration of regular business hours, per week.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with health center expansion and construction
- Member of professional organization
- Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE)

- Team Management and Development: Ability to build and lead a diverse team of healthcare professionals. Skilled in fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Experience in coaching and developing staff to enhance performance and career growth.
- Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations: Capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including patients, community organizations, and government agencies. Ability to advocate for the health center's mission and services.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences, including staff, patients, and external stakeholders. Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and diplomacy.
