Job Summary:

Responsible for the operational and strategic financial leadership of assigned and existing business as well as new system business ventures and initiatives that support the strategic vision and plan of the organization. The position will report directly to the system Chief Financial Officer with a dotted line to the assigned President, serving as their key strategic partner. This leader also maintains key relationships to other business and initiative executives. Responsible for the financial performance and managed of the existing business. Partners with system executives to lead the development, planning and implementation of plans and objectives that result in the success and maturation of new business models and ventures that yield financial value to the organization. This individual is engaged in growing new business services utilizing superior analytical skills, creative organizational ability and engaging senior leaders with thoughtful and eloquent communication.

The Finance Officer is responsible for business leadership, strategy development, internal controls, operating and capital forecasting, as well as the monitoring and management of finances. The role partners with enterprise and market leaders to evaluate, address, interpret, resolve and monitor a broad and diverse range of financial, operational and strategic issues. They are a key contributor to growing overall financial management of Adventist Health by driving key strategies and financial performance. This role will work collaboratively with other finance leaders and serve as an ambassador of finance for the initiatives and business that they lead.


Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or related field: Required
  • Master's Degree in applicable or related field: Preferred
  • Ten years’ experience in a hospital or health care financial function, including at least 5 years in a management level position: Required


Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA): Preferred


Essential Functions:

  • With a bias toward action, leads finance and implementation of new business and initiative development including financial proformas, reporting, controls, policies and integration. Responsible for long- and short-term financial planning. Optimizes financial position, cash flow and capital.
  • Strategic partner to the President of their assigned market(s) including responsibility for the net operating income. Ensures stewardship, financial integrity and sustainability. Collaborates to create and implement strategic goals and operational tactics to achieve success in fulfilling local, area and system operating commitments.
  • Collaborates effectively with the executive team in supporting operations that seek to standardize, optimize and achieve overarching goals. Identifies appropriate opportunities for efficiencies and cost reduction, centering the patient.
  • Leads change initiatives bringing diverse perspectives and leading practices into the organization, constructively challenging the conventional wisdom or accepted way of doing things and generating new, creative strategies or approaches that balance clinical, financial, strategic, and operational considerations. The leader will confidently lead and influence others, building effective coalitions to accelerate change and to motivate others to pursue common objectives with excitement about the future.
  • Leads the development of annual budgets and long-range forecasts consistent with local, area and system strategies and objectives. Develops and implements financial benchmarks, budgets, operating commitment goals, incentive goals, and reporting of key financial indicators to ensure accountability and on budget performance. Collaborates with system services departments of revenue cycle, real estate, managed care, finance, accounting, and other departments to optimize financial performance.
  • Demonstrates a strategic orientation through partnering with the Financial, Operational, Clinical and Executive leadership to help shape the organization's business and financial strategies. Is creative, curious, and capable of thinking broadly about business not only financial issues. Demonstrates the ability to leverage trends and leading practices. Use analytics and strong conceptual thinking skills to generate meaningful insight. Aligns strategies to clearly actionable initiatives, balancing collaboration, and clinical financial, strategic and operational considerations.
  • Effectively leads direct reports and departments with a focus on development. Leads team building and quality of work-life within the finance functions.
  • Articulates a clear and compelling vision of the future, lead with energy, promoting a culture of innovation and creative thinking. Supports the system's drive for results working effectively with different constituencies. Influences strategic direction and decision through credibility, transparency and assimilation of others' ideas and input, while shaping and influencing decisions that maximize financial performance.
  • Demonstrates a results orientation. Is energized and motivated by a challenge. Successfully drives and partners effectively with cross-functional teams and working across a complex enterprise. Demonstrates strong execution skills and a record of developing teams, systems, and processes that drove high-impact, transformative change efforts.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of the financial report. Provides oversight for the review of journals, account reconciliations and new procedures to ensure financial information is captured accurately. Ensures finance team partners with facility leaders to ascertain the impact of decisions on finance and determine if any future changes need to be considered.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding and ability to implement business models that support the clinical delivery of care specific to communities Adventist Health serves.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Pay Range The estimated base pay for this position is $396,000 to $494,550. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through years of experience, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
