Description
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs various staff support duties within the Sheriff's Office.
Example of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to,
  • Carry out the Sheriff's Mission and vision and adhere to the Office's Core Values; Trust, Service, Community;
  • Cultivates high morale and team culture within the Special Services Unit;'
  • Performs all services at a high-level and is customer-service oriented;
  • Prepares and processes and/or reissues a variety of legal documents, such as warrants, subpoenas, protective orders, and temporary restraining orders; workload focuses primarily on civil processes (i.e. writs of possession, writs of execution, writs of garnishments and writs of sequestration) and citations (i.e. suits, small claims, justice suits and criminal investigations);
  • Arrange for the timely delivery of legal documents by distributing papers to the correct patrol deputies; monitor the recall of outdated warrants from various courts so as to ensure that citizens are not unnecessarily arrested or detained;
  • Schedule in-state and out-of-state trips for deputies performing extradition/transfer of suspects or inmates;
  • Prepare reports on dockets, disposition of warrants, fine collection; prepare billing for State Attorney General's Office for service of state documents; maintain TCIC/NCIC database but updating entries and information;
  • Performs receptionist duties by receiving calls from members of the public, responding to inquiries, providing information within scope of responsibility, and referring calls to other co-workers as appropriate;
  • Prepares tax suit documents for service on citizens who are delinquent on payment of property taxes; prepares legal documents for sales of real and personal property legally confiscated by the County;
  • Prepares legal notices of citations and legal actions by arranging for posting in public places and/or publication in media;
  • Mails cards notifying citizens of pending civil or small claims actions/paperwork; accepts mail for Sheriff's Office and detention center;
  • Logs and submits money received from paid bonds to bookkeepers; coordinates with bond companies and various courts to verify incarceration of violator;
  • Perform general office work, including routine filing, copying and data processing for three deputies handling civil actions;
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Texas Driver's License

Environmental Conditions: Duties and trainings are generally performed within Brazoria County in both indoor and outdoor environments. Occasionally, duties and trainings are performed outside Brazoria County.
