An exciting opportunity currently exists for an experienced Cost Engineer to join Bechtel’s Mining & Metals Project team in Karratha, Western Australia, delivering a strategic project for a top tier mining customer. This is a FIFO role working 2:1 roster based in Karratha, WA.

Job Summary:

As Cost Engineer, you will undertake cost control and analysis activities and be responsible for cost management tasks including identifying and preparing cost studies, reviewing cost trends, cost and commitment tracking, developing and implementing project requirements for cost control and processing payment certificates all associated with various Contractor works packages. Your detailed analysis will provide innovative solutions to cost engineering challenges.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs generally non-routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities.
  • Coordinates the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems, and reports.
  • Coordinates the development and accuracy of cost reports.
  • Verifies consistency with previous reports to ensure compatibility and consistency.
  • Prepares specific budgets in accordance with prescribed standards and procedures.
  • Investigates the requirements for estimating and/or cost control data.
  • Collects and classifies cost data.
  • Performs budget allocation and reporting/cost control regime for specific construction discipline or group of disciplines.
  • Prepares cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis, and cost and quantity comparisons.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or related field with solid project controls or cost related work experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, extensive/demonstrated project controls or cost control experience. 10-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferential will be in field experience across either EPCM and/or EPC execution models on major, complex projects.
  • Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing cost engineering functions, which include cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Proficient planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing cost engineering functions, which include cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis.
  • Proficiency with PC operating systems, with proficiency in several basic software applications.
  • Proficiency with multiple discipline specific software applications currently used in Bechtel (EcoSys and Microsoft Office Applications, for example).
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Ability to interact effectively with colleagues in many different disciplines.
