Hoffman Construction Company - Union Labor Relations Specialist

Location: Portland, Oregon

Position Summary: The Union Labor Relations Specialist will work with the Operations Team and report to the Executive VP of Operations. This position serves a key role in facilitating positive relationships between local building trade labor unions, their members, and Hoffman’s affiliate companies with represented employees. Responsibilities include interpreting, managing, and facilitating union collective bargaining agreements, addressing grievances, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and fostering a constructive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Regularly meet with management both in office and field to develop a collaborative labor strategy.
  2. Manage and resolve interpretation of collective bargaining agreements, grievances, and union requests for information.
  3. Provide advice and counsel to employees and management regarding labor relations issues.
  4. Serve as the primary resource to leadership for workplace investigations involving union employees.
  5. Work with unions to identify, develop, and administer relevant training.
  6. Participate and may lead labor contract negotiations and the grievance process, including arbitration.
  7. Continuously review labor relations policies and ensure compliance with legal and contractual requirements.
  8. Lead initiatives that align with the company’s labor relation strategy.
  9. Maintain labor relations-related archives and documentation.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Labor and Industrial Relations, or a relevant field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  2. Minimum of five years of experience in Building Trade Union Labor Relations or a related field.
  3. Project Management skills, including the ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal skills involving the ability to establish trust and mediate conflict.
  5. Ability to travel within assigned geographical area, overnight as needed.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience.
