GL Accountant | Credit and Collections Position Summary:
Selectemp Employment Services is seeking a detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant / Credit and Collections Specialist to join our client's team. This role involves preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, assessing creditworthiness, and managing collections while fostering positive client relationships.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities for GL Accountant | Credit and Collections:
General Ledger:

  • Perform general accounting duties and analyze the general ledger, including month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Review and analyze financial data to provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist outside auditors with necessary account information for annual audits.
  • Provide backup for accounts payable, invoicing, and payroll as needed.
  • File tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies.
Credit and Collections:
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verify deposits, and respond to bank inquiries.
  • Reconcile customer accounts and assess creditworthiness of potential customers.
  • Set and enforce credit limits based on risk assessments.
  • Monitor and manage overdue accounts to minimize bad debts.
  • Negotiate payment terms with clients and review credit applications.
  • Develop and implement credit policies and procedures.
  • Analyze financial data to evaluate credit risk and provide recommendations for credit approvals/rejections.
  • Maintain accurate records of credit transactions and collaborate with sales and finance teams.
General Duties for GL Accountant | Credit and Collections:
  • Stay current on acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate record-keeping and provide accounting support.
  • Assist in documenting and streamlining accounting processes.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
Education, Experience, Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field (required).
  • Minimum of five years of related experience (required).
  • Proven experience in credit management or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with credit risk assessment techniques and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Technical accounting skills with proficiency in accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial and cost accounting principles.
  • Ability to prepare tax reports accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, and accounting software.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience in Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Other Requirements:
  • Less than 10% domestic travel required.
  • Physical Requirements: lift up to 25 lbs when needed
