We are seeking a dynamic, driven, and charismatic Head of Conferences & Events to lead the continued growth and success of our thriving Events Practice.
As the Head of Conferences & Events, your primary responsibility will be driving revenue growth and expanding our event portfolio of more than 100+ annual events. You will be instrumental in building new business, nurturing client relationships, and ensuring the flawless execution of our Branded Conferences and Custom Events portfolios. This exciting role fits a proven leader who excels in managing and mentoring a talented team, with a focus on meeting ambitious targets and delivering exceptional event experiences.
You will lead a dedicated team of 25+ professionals, including 5-7 senior direct reports, all working together to achieve growth and execution goals. Your success will be measured by your ability to generate new business, maintain strong client relationships, and oversee meticulous event production and operations. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership

  • Drive Strategic Vision: Shape and lead the strategic vision for the Events Practice, emphasizing financial accountability, revenue generation, and profitability to ensure that all events contribute meaningfully to the company's bottom line.
  • Oversee Event Execution: Lead the planning and execution of year-round events, including partnerships, marketing, program development, production, and logistics, with a focus on maximizing revenue opportunities and maintaining consistent P&L performance.
  • Develop Growth Strategies: Create and implement long-term growth strategies that align with Landmark Ventures' broader business objectives, directly tying event outcomes to revenue and profitability targets.
  • Ensure Financial Stewardship: Act as the financial steward for the Events Practice, overseeing budgets, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring every event meets or exceeds its financial goals.
  • Foster Leadership Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership to align event strategies with overall company goals, driving sustained growth through innovative sales and business development efforts.
  • Inspire and Mentor Teams: Inspire and mentor your team, instilling a results-driven culture that prioritizes revenue generation, client satisfaction, and operational excellence.
Revenue & Business Growth
  • Drive Revenue Growth: Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies to expand existing client relationships and identify new business opportunities, with a focus on achieving ambitious revenue and profitability targets across the Event Practice.
  • Client & Partnership Development: Engage with new and existing partners and sponsors, ensuring all contractual obligations are fulfilled and driving high satisfaction and re-booking opportunities. Understand partners' strategic goals to maximize the value of each relationship, ensuring alignment with event objectives and sustained business growth.
  • Sales Leadership: Lead the sales team in identifying high-potential clients, crafting compelling value propositions, and closing deals that significantly contribute to revenue goals. Innovate and monetize partnerships and sponsorships, ensuring maximum financial return while delivering exceptional value to partners and clients.
  • Market Analysis & Product Strategy: Regularly analyze sales data, client feedback, and market trends to accurately forecast revenue, adjust strategies, and make data-driven decisions to enhance profitability.
  • Strategic Influence: Serve as a key spokesperson for Landmark Ventures in public forums, conferences, and industry events, articulating the value of partnerships and representing the firm to enhance its reputation and influence in the industry.
Financial Management & Planning
  • Oversee P&L Management: Ensure all aspects of the P&L are effectively managed, with financial targets met or exceeded. This includes optimizing pricing strategies, managing expenses, and enhancing cost-efficiency without compromising event quality.
  • Budget Development & Resource Allocation: Develop and manage budgets for all event-related activities, monitoring expenditures to ensure optimal resource allocation and alignment with revenue goals and strategic priorities.
  • Financial Reporting & Insights: Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior leadership, providing clear insights into the financial health of the Events Practice.
  • Oversee Financial Controls: Establish and enforce financial controls and procedures to enhance profitability and mitigate risks, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements across millions of dollars in Events spend.
  • Vendor Management & Contracting: Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure favorable terms and cost-effective outcomes, supporting the financial objectives of the Events Practice.
Marketing & Communications
  • Enhance Event Communications: Oversee and refine event-related communications for speakers, sponsors, and attendees, ensuring consistency and impact across all digital materials.
  • Implement Creative Marketing Strategies: Identify and execute innovative marketing approaches to effectively promote events and opportunities to attract high-level participants across sectors.
  • Elevate Strategic Marketing: Provide strategic input across multiple marketing platforms, including writing, design, websites, presentations, proposals, and activations to deliver cohesive and compelling messaging.
  • Articulate Complex Ideas: Quickly learn and clearly articulate complex ideas with clarity, intention, and precision, tailoring messages for different audiences and contexts.
  • Communicate Effectively Across Channels: Express ideas in a clear and compelling manner through various communication channels including written, phone/Zoom, and in-person interactions
Operations & Team Management
  • Manage and Lead Teams: Directly manage and mentor a team of 5-7 senior direct reports, providing guidance, performance feedback, and career development support while fostering a collaborative work environment across a geographically dispersed team of approximately 25 full time employees.
  • Align Talent Management: Partner with HR to align talent management strategies with organizational objectives, including recruitment, retention, and performance management, to build and maintain a high-performing team while maintaining a healthy and supportive work environment.
  • Cultivate a Thriving Culture: Lead efforts to foster a vibrant and collaborative company culture, where employees feel valued, engaged, and inspired to innovate, ensuring that the team's sense of purpose aligns with our organizational mission.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate has:
  • Leadership Expertise: 15+ years of leadership experience overseeing the development and execution of events ranging from 20 to 2,000 attendees, with direct or related experience in business development, account management, event management, conference production, marketing, communications, and event planning.
  • Proven Sales Performance: Demonstrated success in driving substantial revenue growth through strategic sales initiatives, including expanding existing client portfolios, securing new business, and consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets in competitive markets.
  • Team Building & Communication: Proven experience in building and leading high-performing teams, with the ability to facilitate effective communication across direct reports to consistently meet and exceed event expectations.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong experience in working with budgets at multiple levels, including forecasting, resource allocation, and financial reporting.
  • Event Technology Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of the latest event technologies and platforms, with the ability to integrate these tools into seamless event production.
  • Contract Negotiation & Management: Expertise in negotiating and managing contracts with sponsors, partners, vendors, and talent, ensuring favorable terms and successful partnerships.
  • Strategic Presentation Skills: Proficiency in conceptualizing and delivering impactful sales presentations to senior executives and C-Suite leadership across diverse industries.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, with a commitment to delivering high-quality, error-free deliverables that meet the highest standards.
  • Work Flexibility & Travel: Availability and willingness to work extended hours, including occasional late nights or weekend travel, particularly during the busiest periods leading up to major events.
  • Effective Communication: Strong communicator with a talent for managing multiple priorities and keen understanding the subtleties of client interactions and needs.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Comfort in dynamic environments, with the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, coupled with critical thinking, strategic consulting, and conceptualization skills to translate strategy into actionable business objectives.
