Supervisor: Head of Food and Beverage

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Head of Food and Beverage, the Café Manager leads the front of house (FOH) operations of the Honolulu Museum of Art Café with an emphasis on guest satisfaction. This position oversees stock management, health and safety regulations compliance, reservations management, hosting, and leading pre-shift team meetings as well as assisting in coordinating catering needs for events. The Café Manager builds, develops, trains, and inspires a professional FOH service team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years of successful restaurant leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and at least one year of experience in event planning and implementation.
  • Passionate about service and cuisine, and knowledgeable on wine, beer, and spirits.
  • Strong supervisory skills as well as the ability to train others in café standards, steps of service, and techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding in the use of a POS system and general computer literacy.
  • Basic bookkeeping and math skills and a working knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and work calmly and efficiently with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to think creatively and to successfully resolve unexpected issues as they arise.
  • Ability to obtain Blue Manager card from Liquor Commission and food safety certification.
  • Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
  • Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.
  • Ability to build, lead, and develop a driven, diverse team of employees and volunteers.

Compensation:

The Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The minimum salary for this position is $55,000 per year and the maximum salary is $65,000 per year. This opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:

Working Conditions and Atmosphere:

Works in a restaurant environment. General hours are Wednesday through Sunday, with 40 – 50 hours expected per week based on need. Ability to operate general office equipment including computer, copier, printers, fax machine, etc. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 lbs. of general office material or equipment. Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
