POSITION PURPOSE
The Retirement Plan Analyst administers and coordinates the retirement/pension program. This position will be instrumental in guiding employees toward a secure and fulfilling retirement. As a member of the benefits team, the retirement plan specialist will assist with administering healthcare plans and wellness programs (e.g., medical, dental, disability, and family leave).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Administers and coordinates the processing of requests for pension/retirement plans, including meeting with the employees to explain the processes, reviewing forms for accuracy, calculating benefits, and preparing paperwork for the Committee, bank, and employees.
  • Coordinates with external Fund Manager to meet with employees on an individual and/or group basis regarding pension/retirement plan options and general retirement issues, including the managing of fund plans, investments, deferred compensation, and external retirement plans.
  • Coordinates and processes pension/retirement benefits or withdrawal of contributions for those employees leaving employment or losing eligibility to participate in the pension/retirement plans.
  • Works with external Fund Manager, Trustees, and Fiduciary to implement approved defined benefit, 401(a) and 457 plan changes/updates by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating plans to employees.
  • Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees into plans.
  • Maintains files of pensioners, current plan members, pension/retirement plan history, pension data, correspondence, reports, and forms.
  • Responds orally and in writing to telephone, written and walk-in inquiries from current and potential retirees regarding pension/retirement issues; investigates and resolves issues.
  • Provides general information and assistance to employees completing their retirement applications.
  • Prepares and distributes informational materials to retirees and potential retirees and may participate in retirement planning and education workshops.
  • Generates, complies and prepares all pertinent data and documents to the appropriate committee, trustee, actuary, or auditor as requested.
  • Coordinates with Board, Trustee/Fiduciary and Fund Managers to schedules pension board committee meetings and prepare minutes.
  • Performs clerical and administrative functions of the pension committee, including answering phones and maintaining paper and computerized files and databases.
  • Assist with administering healthcare plans and wellness programs (e.g., medical, dental, disability, family leave).
  • Support the open enrollment process.
  • Advise employees, answer questions, and enroll staff in benefit programs.
  • Assist with the process paperwork related to disability, FMLA absences, and employee life status changes.
  • Assist with handling appeals, disputes, and problem-solving related to benefits programs.
  • Assist with interpreting and administering leave policies in alignment with applicable laws (FMLA, ADA, etc.).
  • Participate in coordinating wellness events (e.g., health fairs, workshops, seminars).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively
  • Proficiency in using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, the internet, software applications, and complex spreadsheets and databases.
  • Good presentation skills and the ability to communicate to groups.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external constituents in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
  • An associate's degree with coursework in human resources, accounting, benefits, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an employee benefit, payroll, accounting, human resources, and/or retirement program administration environment is required.
