The Software Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Engineering, working to cultivate a cohesive identity for the Software Engineering group within the IAS Business Area at SNC. As a functional leader, this individual is charged with reinforcing overall technical hygiene within the Software Engineering discipline. In concert with the other engineering leaders, the candidate will support the organization as a whole by developing and disseminating Software Engineering specific training, developing and improving technical processes and tools, and by serving as a technical subject matter expert to the various Business Units within IAS. In general terms, this individual will act in a facilitating role to the Business Units within IAS, and hold an indirect relationship with individual contributors within the Software Engineering group.


The Software Engineering Manager will also provide technical oversight to the DevOps, Agile Services, and Software Quality teams. This includes a good understanding of systems, modern scripting and enterprise level languages as well as open source tools that can and should be leveraged to solve problems.


The Software Engineering Manager will act as a subject matter expert in the Software Engineering group and as such, will support direct programs – assisting with programmatic reviews, and surge support. Additionally, this role will support business development activities when requested – reviewing and developing proposal responses with capture teams as required.


Responsibilities:

  1. Manage continuous integration (CI) pipeline to fully automate deployment of mission critical services in cloud, virtualized and bare-metal deployments
  2. Create, maintain, and evolve software configuration management across multiple programs and baselines
  3. Manage scripts and templates to build cloud-based development systems including tools such as Jira, Bamboo, Bitbucket/GitLab, Artifactory, etc.
  4. Build, maintain, and utilize tools for deployment, monitoring and operations
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, test and production environments
  6. Hire, mentor and train other DevOps architects on software and system optimizations, helping to identify and remove potential performance bottlenecks
  7. Design, manage, and maintain tools to automate operational processes
  8. Leadership oversight and for ensuring Department/Team training and adherence to all SNC Policies, Procedures, and Compliance Regulations (internal and external)
  9. Other duties as assigned

Must-haves:

  1. Bachelor's of Science degree in a related discipline and typically 8 or more years of relevant technical experience
  2. Understanding of engineering principles and practices
  3. Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis and simulation
  4. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  5. Demonstrated success managing personnel is a plus
  6. Project engineering and/or program management experience is preferred, specifically as it pertains to planning and estimating
  7. Experience with large scale software development
  8. Experience with automation and configuration management
  9. Software process automation with popular scripting languages
  10. Experience developing code in at least one high-level programming language
  11. Understanding of software development methodologies such as Agile/Scrum, Waterfall, and Spiral
  12. Source, build/release, and configuration management in a continuous integration & delivery environment
  13. The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance required

Preferred:

  1. Previous management experience; exposure to recruiting employees; assigning, directing, and evaluating their work; and overseeing the development and maintenance of staff competence
  2. Experience with identifying and coordinating resources to ensure the required tools, processes, and training are available/effective and programs are staffed and supported to achieve success
  3. Mission Operations experience including GIS
  4. Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies
  5. Managing the configuration and administration of DevOps servers (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, Jenkins, Nexus) running on Linux or in cloud computing
  6. Container orchestration frameworks such as Docker and Kubernetes
  7. General knowledge of Puppet, Ansible, and PYTHON scripting
  8. Background in Linux/Unix administration
  9. Application performance analysis and monitoring
  10. Knowledge of best practices and IT and Cyber operations in an always-up, always-available mission critical service
  11. Experience with other DevOps tools like: Nexus/Artifactory Lifecycle, SonarCube
  12. Experience with DO-178 Software Considerations and Certification

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $120,552.10 - $165,759.14. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.


SNC offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
