Our City Life Director develops volunteer teams to provide extensive, faith-based programming to at-risk youth ages 11-19 focused on under-resourced neighborhoods in Lima, OH. Our mission is to help young people develop a way of living taught by Jesus Christ: balancing the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of life. We build valued relationships that are sustained through ongoing involvement and wrap-around care for students in their neighborhoods. We support the family unit and partner with other agencies and other YFC ministries to provide youth a pathway to success. This position does require a portion of personal and community fundraising.

The City Life Director is a position that requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, the ability to work with and through other people, and strong communication skills. S/he must embrace and build a team that embodies YFC’s Cultural Attributes: Christ-centered, enduring humility, relentless trust, courageous faithfulness, joyful camaraderie, and kingdom-inspired diversity. S/he will seek to implement relational ministry actions to develop Authentic Christ-Sharing Relationships with young people within the context of the City Life Ministry Model.

Essential Functions

  1. Recruit, train, and empower ministry volunteers to establish relational, holistic ministry and Christian community development and discipleship/mentoring.
  2. Manage relational programming to urban youth through volunteer teams in the school and neighborhood (Mentoring, job skills training, small groups, life skills, trips, etc.).
  3. Able to share his/her faith and Biblical truth with lost teens in an individual, small group, or large group setting.
  4. Form partnerships with other youth-serving organizations, churches, and businesses to provide opportunities and wrap-around services.
  5. Create a Community Support Team that helps solicit the necessary community and financial support for the ministry.
  6. Fundraising in a missional and relational model.
  7. Provide written stories of students to be used in YFC publications.
  8. Attend staff outings and trainings as required.

Note: Hours must complement our afterschool programs, and evenings. Some weekends are required.

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel. As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  1. Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  2. Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion, and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  3. Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps, and events.
  4. Model empathy, humility, and care for all people, promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression.

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  1. Knowledge and demonstrated skills in each of Youth for Christ’s Cultural Attributes (Christ-Centered, Kingdom Inspired Diversity, Joyful Camaraderie, Relentless Trust, Enduring Humility, and Courageous Faithfulness).
  2. Ability to humbly serve and honor others even in difficult situations with prayer, consistency, transparency, and resilience.
  3. Demonstrates proper reliance on God, others, and self through generous giving of time and skills.
  4. Prioritizes others’ needs for a missional outcome, characterized by joy, with active listening and problem-solving skills.
  5. Trusts God with new approaches and changes, and communicates needs and limits with emotional intelligence.
  6. Seeks and fosters authentic Christ-Centered relationships with people of various backgrounds.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  1. Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
  2. Three (3) Years of Youth Ministry Experience.
  3. Experience in leading teams.
