MUSLIM SPIRITUAL ADVISOR (“Chaplain”) at NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

NU’s Spiritual Advisor positions cover several classic “chaplaincy” or “campus ministry” functions and advance the global experiential educational mission of the University and its Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service (CSDS). A successful candidate will embody a passion for working with Muslim undergraduate and graduate students from diverse US and international backgrounds.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Design effective outreach, hospitality, and engagement approaches to students, faculty, and staff within the Spiritual Advisor’s own religious/spiritual tradition.
  2. Advise student organization(s) serving the SA's specific religious/spiritual tradition.
  3. Work with the Center Executive Director and staff to plan and implement dynamic programs of spirituality, dialogue, and service.
  4. Meet with Northeastern community members for spiritual guidance, care, and counseling.
  5. Be available to meet with and serve students of all religious/spiritual traditions.
  6. Meet with fellow Spiritual Advisors for dialogue and program planning.
  7. Build bridges of communication and cooperation with the Spiritual Advisor’s specific religious/spiritual tradition locally, nationally, and globally.
  8. Serve as a representative of the Spiritual Advisor’s religious/spiritual tradition in University forums, interfaith services, events, and conferences.
  9. Coordinate services and ceremonies specific to the Spiritual Advisor’s religious/spiritual tradition.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching, speaking, preaching, and/or spiritual/pastoral advising and care.
  • Interest in interfaith dialogue and collaboration.
  • Commitment to developing student leaders who are culturally adept, ethically reflective, and spiritually grounded global citizens.
  • Appreciation of the dynamics of young adult Muslim life in US society and higher education.
  • Powerful commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
