We are looking for dedicated engineers to join us. You should have a strong desire to learn outside of your subject matter area and provide engineering input across disciplines. You will be given the autonomy to make design decisions that improve the X platform and see your design go from concept to large scale deployment at a very rapid pace.
What You’ll Do:
As a connectivity engineer at X you will design large cable plants and low voltage systems for the latest network architectures at scale (24MW - 100MW+). You will be responsible for ensuring scalability while future proofing data center cabling plants to allow for the changes in network architectures and data transmission speeds (beyond 800GB). An important function of the position will be working collaboratively and cross functionally across disciplines including capacity planning, network engineering, and hardware reliability.
Minimum Qualifications
- RCDD (Registered Communication Distribution Designer).
- Experience with various types of connectivity applications including multimode, singlemode, copper, and other low voltage telecommunication systems.
- 5+ years experience working in and designing data centers.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical degree such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or 8 years equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with structured cabling and both active and passive cabling elements.
- Experience performing budget loss, insertion loss, and return loss calculations for structured cable systems.
- Experience deploying network elements such as routing switches, aggregation switches, optical transceivers, and DWDM.
- Ability to interpret fiber test results.
- Ability to manage multiple projects across different time zones simultaneously.
- 40% travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with network connectivity testing (including single mode duplex fiber, multimode duplex fiber, MP08, MPO12, MPO16, AOC, DAC, and copper) and connectivity troubleshooting including the use of OTDR, light meters, VFLs, loop backs, BERT across different vendors.
- Experience building out and designing scalable fiber and connectivity plants for large scale data centers across Ethernet, Infiniband, and ROCE networks.
- Experience designing and deploying connectivity for high speed/bandwidth deployments for HPC and ML applications.
- Knowledge of basic programming languages like Python and SQL.
- Experience deploying monitoring and alerting systems for environmental/mechanical and electrical data center systems.
Responsibilities
- Procure fiber, copper, and other connectivity for data center deployments.
- Design and plan scalable future-proof data center connectivity designs for network clusters greater than 40 MW.
- Project management and oversight of construction for new data center builds and expansions.
- Planning and implementation of network upgrades and overhauls for technology refreshes in existing data center environments.
- Develop Method of Procedure (MOPs) and SOPs for connectivity deployments in live environments.
- Knowledge of building codes and standards.
- Audit existing and new installation of connectivity deployments and hold vendors responsible for troubleshooting and repairs prior to network deployment turnovers.
- Development and maintenance of as built documentation for all data center connectivity.
- Release and troubleshooting of ISP circuits across multiple regions.
- Interface with data center providers to drive circuit and cross connect deployments.
If you thrive in a dynamic, high-growth tech environment and relish the opportunity to collaborate with passionate, driven over-achievers, your career with us here at X will be both exhilarating and fulfilling!
