Primary Functions:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will provide leadership to the Environmental, Health and Safety programs at the Fremont, CA location within the defined World Class Manufacturing (WCM) framework, in a manner consistent with the

Principles of Conduct and Action. With strategic guidance from both the central EHS function and local plant manager, this hands-on leadership position will: ensure federal and local legislative compliance, develop and maintain ISO systems, develop an autonomous EHS culture, promote defined Health and Wellness programs, define and lead EHS and

sustainability initiatives/projects, define EHS standard operating procedures, provide EHS training, develop risk identification and reduction awareness and methods, all achieved through participation and employee engagement.


The EHS Manager will provide direction and leadership to all plant department managers, supervisors and employees in matters dealing with EHS related matters and will serve as leader for the plant’s various safety efforts. This role proactively drives awareness, communicates best practices, and implements new programs related to Safety. They will work to ensure safe behavior, machinery, and regulatory compliance for EHS through the entire site. Facilitating collaborative discussions, projects and best-practice sharing across other key manufacturing sites regarding EHS topics will be required while also leading continuous improvement of EHS Management System.


Further, the EHS Manager will coordinate activities involving any accidents or incident investigation and corrective response in all matters relating to promoting employee’s safe working environment in all areas at all times by correcting or reporting unsafe acts or conditions through appropriate channels to resolution.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership: Lead the WCM Health & Safety Pillar, Crisis Management Committee, and contributing member of the Fremont Leadership Team. Manage and develop EHS program throughout indirect reports to ensure safe behavior, safe equipment, and regulatory compliance of all outside contractors. Lead and oversee the efforts in support of the site's Statistical and Non-Statistical goals. Exhibits model behavior as related to EHS policies and practices and enforces safety rules and regulations in a manner consistent with the corporate Values and Attitudes. Work closely with RPG Safety Leadership and Regional Support.


Change Agent: Proactively drive awareness and communicate best practices related to Safety, promoting an autonomous EHS culture. Develop, schedule and deliver impactful and interactive training to supervisors, employees and contractors on subjects related to EHS. Identify and champion impactful initiatives seeking continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental compliance.


Safety Practices: Continuously inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment, processes, and workplace to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, corporation, and industry standards. Oversee investigations and reporting of incidents including near-miss, First-Aid and Accidents involving injuries and/or property damage and make recommendations for corrective action. Oversee and maintain site risk assessment initiatives such as Risk Assessments and develop and implement action plans. Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance and Production Departments to ensure machinery, tooling, and all equipment are safe and ergonomically sound.


Regulatory Compliance: Oversee the filing of all internal, corporate, local, state, and federal reporting relating to regulatory compliance and maintain ISO 14001. Responsible to stay abreast of current OSHA requirements and act as Site liaison for OSHA and maintain hazardous waste disposal program. Lead First Aid/CPR, PPE, and AED programs. Creates, implements, trains and audits environmental, health and safety policies, procedures, and practices for Fremont.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree, four-year advanced degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, Safety Sciences is preferred.
  • Three to five years’ in California safety/environmental management experience or related field.
  • Professional certifications and licenses would include member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, as a member of National Safety Council or as SARA/ CERCLA/ RCRA certified through a nationally recognized association.
  • 6 – 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of success in reducing occupational injuries and maintaining compliance with pertinent regulations.
  • 6 – 8 years of a strong safety background and experience in federal regulations and reporting. Experience with federal and state OSHA regulations and reporting.
  • Familiar with CALOSHA state requirements and OSHA logs and postings.
  • Must possess qualities necessary for additional advancement within the company. Must be adaptable, and drive customer focus. Requires basic computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn a variety of database systems.
  • Strong Team Leadership skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to support disaster recovery plans to ensure customers receive uninterrupted service during times of crisis.
  • Ability to translate data into useful information.

Safety & Health

  • Follow the company's Health and Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within Shipping/Warehouse and
  • notify coworkers and supervisors of hazardous acts and conditions.
  • Proper use of PPE at all times.
  • Maintain clean and safe working environment in line with the 5S philosophy.
  • Facilitate and participate in safety training and safety committee meetings.


Quality Assurance and Process Control

  • Support a zero-defect system through process control, to minimize non-quality related costs and to improve customer satisfaction.
  • This requires defect-free work and understanding of the requirements of the company’s quality system as it pertains to job duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to check work to ensure conformance to process control instructions, specifications, and quality standards. Identify and segregate non-conforming product.
  • Identify the need for and assist in initiating and implementing corrective and preventative actions when appropriate.
