About this role
We are searching for an attorney specializing in asset management to support BlackRock’s institutional client business, working with a diverse range of clients including public and private pension plans, foundations, endowments, family offices, insurers, sovereign wealth clients and other financial institutions. In this dynamic role, you will focus on a variety of legal issues relating to the provision of asset management services through various investment vehicles. You will have the opportunity to directly manage, coordinate, and advise across a wide variety of business and operations teams on regulatory, compliance, disclosure and commercial issues and risks presented. This position can sit in Washington D.C., Atlanta, or San Francisco.
Responsibilities
You will provide legal advice and consultation with respect to client contracting, advisory and outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) engagements, investing with third-party managers, fiduciary duties of asset managers, and regulatory reform.
To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate initiative and accountability, possess excellent analytical, communications and negotiation skills, work across different business functions while remaining responsive, have confidence presenting complex issues to senior business managers, and be able to work creatively in a fast-paced environment. You may also be responsible for outside counsel engagement.
To Ensure Success You Will Possess The Following
- J.D. with outstanding academic credentials and four to six years' relevant experience as a lawyer in a major law firm, in the legal department of an asset management firm, as an attorney for a public pension plan, or at a regulatory agency with responsibility for overseeing asset managers. We are seeking candidates with experience with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, ERISA, banking regulations, state pension codes, and securities laws.
- Strong interpersonal skills are critical for this role. You should have outstanding analytical, written, and verbal communication and relationship-building skills, contract drafting and negotiation experience, and a consistent track record working as a member of a team. You should solve problems in a practical manner, communicate complex concepts in an understandable way, and prioritize numerous demands.
- You must be organized, a self-starter, and able to manage multiple time-sensitive matters. You should also excel at coordinating complex projects involving different business and assisting the business in implementing solutions across a range of BlackRock products and services.
For California only the salary range for this position is $176,000 - $229,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including health care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
