SOCIAL WORKER

Job Location
Duke University's Law School seeks a Social Worker to support their clinical program. Duke's clinical program operates as a public interest law firm building a bridge between law school and practice. The Social Worker will join an interdisciplinary team working closely with clinic faculty, student attorneys, social work interns enrolled in MSW programs and other professionals to address the social and legal needs of clients.
Occupational Summary
Provide a variety of casework and social services to clients and their families when personal, social or environmental difficulties exist.
Work Performed
Interview clients, their families and other concerned parties to obtain information about personal, social and environmental history; make visits to home, school, or other spaces for additional information as required.
Evaluate data gathered to support legal advocacy.
Participate in case team meetings to present case histories; confer with other members of legal team to develop and/or support case strategy and advocacy on behalf of clients.
Prepare and maintain a case record for each client to describe the nature of issues confronted as well as services suggested and/or provided.
Assist clients and their families, through individual or group conferences, to understand, accept and follow legal advice and related plans.
Identify, advise, and assist clients with accessing public services and benefits programs appropriate to the client's needs.
Identify, advise, and assist clients with finding housing and other essential services.
Plan, organize, and conduct a variety of casework and group therapy/discussion sessions for clients and their families.
Liaise with community agencies to build connections that support clinic clients.
Accept on call responsibilities for after-hours coverage if required.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training:
Work requires a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work.
Experience:
None required beyond education/training requirement or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Skills:
Language proficiency in English and Spanish.
Experience working with low-income and vulnerable populations.
