Georgia-Pacific is seeking a contribution-motivated Safety Specialist to join our Cedar Springs Containerboard operation located in Cedar Springs, GA. This role will create value by assisting in development, implementation, and maintenance of the facility's safety and health programs. This person will provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, training, and development to advance the overall company safety environment and performance. Our Team
The Cedar Springs facility is one of the largest containerboard facilities in the country with three paper machines that make different weights of brown paper & containerboard paper. The Cedar Springs Mill, located in the southwest corner of Georgia is approximately 28 miles from Dothan, Alabama. Dothan is the 6th largest city in the state of Alabama with a population of about 70,000. From Dothan, you are only 90 miles from the beautiful Gulf Coast. You can easily drive to 3 capital cities in 3 1/2 hours or less. You are just 1.5 hours from Tallahassee, FL and Montgomery, AL. What You Will Do
  • Managing competing demands which requires a strong systems approach to work, strong organizational skills, teamwork, and the ability to establish, communicate and adhere to priorities
  • Designing, implementing, and leading safety and health programs, compliance strategies, and management systems. This role will be critical in improving the facility-wide Lock Tag Verify (LOTO) program and managing ongoing program effectiveness
  • Preparing and conducting regulatory training and working with facility personnel to increase awareness of safety and health issues
  • Performing ongoing evaluations/audits of safety and health programs facility-wide
  • Assisting in preparation of corporate-sponsored safety and health strategies, recommendations, and reporting.
  • Participating in and/or leading Operational Learning sessions which are based on Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) models to help better identify and implement improved safeguards (failing safely)
  • Responding to site personnel needs for assistance and support on safety and health-related issues
  • Assisting with the development of site and department Safety Improvement Plans (SIPs) aimed at ensuring systems are put in place to successfully execute Path to Zero Gamechanger risk reduction efforts
  • Planning promoting, organizing, directing, and auditing safety & health related activities in field
  • Provide leadership to mill critical hazard related safety teams and Compliance System Owners (CSOs) to ensure maximum value creation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for large and small mill projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable safety requirements and applying Prevention through Design (PtD) principles
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Experience and Knowledge of federal/state safety regulatory requirements
  • Safety leadership experience in heavy industrial / manufacturing capacity
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, WORD, Power BI)
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
  • Experience in pulp and paper or chemical facility
  • Experience with injury case management and return to work
  • Experience establishing sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
  • Experience in contractor safety management, and outage/turnaround safety coordination
  • Foundational knowledge of both process safety management and occupational safety management
