Job Requirements / Description

Supervises clinic operations, typically spanning multiple providers, clinics and / or practices. Subordinates include staff involved with professional operational functions. Oversight of administrative areas such as practice revenue management, billing systems and procedures, facilities and safety procedures, registration, new patient coordination, scheduling, medical records storage and maintenance, insurance authorizations. May also supervise patient support staff such as medical assistants or LVNs, in coordination with the nursing lead.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, and the Administrative Director, the Practice Supervisor will work independently and have primary responsibility for the supervision of administrative/clerical staff. The Practice Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the operational, human resource, administrative and business functions of the back office staff in Cancer Services Solid Tumor Practices. The Practice Supervisor will also be responsible for ensuring all new Practice Coordinators under their supervision who are hired into these positions complete all required competencies and training within specified time frames. The Practice Supervisor must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff and patients in a complex environment.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $131,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly over 700 FTE and 100 cost centers, and is at multiple campus and satellite locations., and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • 3-5 years overall experience in related field with 1-2 years of supervisory responsibilities
  • Demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills to effectively supervise staff, and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with clinic / center administration.
  • Strong knowledge of practice operations, patient-scheduling systems, medical and insurance terminology, applicable information systems, patient service standards, and regulatory requirement and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex administrative, clinical, and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center operations.
