Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director/Senior Director, Human Resources will oversee all aspects of the Human Resources (“HR”) function. The ideal candidate will be able to balance a wide range of activities ranging from developing and executing a forward-looking HR strategy that fosters a high-performance culture while being aligned with and supports the company’s business objectives to managing all HR operations activities including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, payroll and benefits administration and compliance with federal and state employment laws. The ideal candidate will need to develop relationships with other executives and is crucial in fostering a positive, ethical work environment through strategic HR initiatives. This position requires strong project management, organizational, and communication skills and interfaces directly with key internal and external stakeholders, providing visibility and exposure to our leadership.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide HR support and guidance to employees and management, including acting as a strategic partner providing guidance on organizational development, succession planning, and change management.
  • Implement, maintain and continuously improve HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure company compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, maintaining knowledge of industry trends and new legislation.
  • Identify and adopt best practices to enhance and maintain the Employee Handbook in collaboration with the executive leadership team.
  • Manage the employee lifecycle, ranging from recruitment and onboarding to performance management, training and offboarding.
  • Execute talent acquisition strategies for full-time employees, interns, and contractors; includes creating and updating job descriptions, marketing open roles, managing the interview process and recruiting firms.
  • Offer thought leadership in understanding the human capital elements of acquisitions, developing activities that facilitate integration of culture, organization, talent, systems, and processes.
  • Improve the company’s performance management system, ensuring all employees receive regular feedback, annual performance reviews and establish personal development plans.
  • Resolve employee relations matters with professionalism, empathy, confidentiality and a focus on successful conflict resolution.
  • Manage all employee benefits, including updating and administering company benefits plans, evaluating benefit funding and risk management strategies, enrollments, and renewals.
  • Lead the administration and ongoing optimization of HRIS platforms ensuring data accuracy, process efficiency, and a seamless employee experience.
  • Oversee the company compensation structure, including competitive market wage analysis, ensuring compliance with IRS and other employee benefits rules.
  • Develop and manage internal company-wide training programs.
  • Design and implement employee engagement initiatives that enhance job satisfaction, build a strong company culture, and reduce turnover
  • Lead continuous improvement across all HR functions by implementing creative strategies and new approaches to existing processes.
  • Effectively manage the HR function costs, ensuring spend is at or below the approved budget.
  • Display a passion for outperformance and achieving results beyond expectations; all while maintaining a heavy focus on advancing efforts towards a diverse and inclusive culture, increasing employee satisfaction and retention.

Required Job Skills & Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or HR accreditation (SHRM-SCP, SPHR or similar) preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in an HR Department with a focus on:
  • o Leading an HR team and preferably the HR function for a growing organization
  • o Benefits program administration (medical, dental, vision, 401K, life insurance).
  • o Benefits and total rewards development.
  • o Executive talent acquisition and recruiting.
  • o Performance management.
  • o HR metrics and data analysis.
  • o Employment law and best practices.
  • o Creating and implementing HR policies and procedures and employee handbooks.
  • o HRIS systems administration (such as Paylocity, Engagedly, vendor portals, etc.).
  • o Payroll processing with accuracy and timeliness of payments
  • o Conducting regular audits of HR processes and documentation to ensure compliance and efficiency
  • o Compensation package development.
  • HR experience in multi-state, high-growth company with distributed sales personnel is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the energy industry, especially within power and utilities, is a plus but not required
  • Extremely high emotional IQ.
  • Strong coaching, consulting, and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills with all levels of stakeholders, both internal and external. Ability to confidently and articulately express well-thought-out positions in a constructive and forward-looking manner.
  • Self-directed work style, able to work autonomously with minimal direction and deliver results with customer service skills, action-oriented, and operates with a sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Genuine appreciation for the value of teamwork through working in a collegial, open, honest, and direct two-way partnership with team members and service providers.
  • Ability to set clear priorities and manage accountabilities while delivering results within budgetary limits.
