JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Education is a key contributor to the strategic plan and serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). As a key leader in the AOA, the role requires an innovative approach to design, support and implement policy directives and priority objectives involving osteopathic continuing medical education (CME) and graduate medical education (GME). The role requires exceptional communications, including the ability to articulate complex accreditation policies, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and drive key initiatives across multiple organizations and diverse constituencies. The AVP is responsible strategically assessing, developing, and implementing programs that strengthen AOA CME provider accreditation and credit systems, while increasing and supporting ACGME programs with Osteopathic Recognition. The AVP will oversee all communications related to AOA CME accreditation and provide information and guidance to the AOA CME providers to assist them in understanding and following the accreditation standards. The AVP will coach and lead a team to ensure effective collaboration and achievement of departmental and organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Directs every aspect of the Bureau of Osteopathic Education (BOE) meeting preparation and execution.
- Oversees the handling of requests from CME providers and determines items to be reviewed by the BOE and those to be handled administratively.
- Directs and oversees the CME provider accreditation process, including development and maintenance of standards, review for new applications and reaccreditation document surveys.
- Facilitates group consensus on CME accreditation actions and other BOE actions; uses expertise of policy implications of decisions and ensures the committee decisions adhere to the policies and procedures of the AOA.
- Drives communication to respective stakeholders on all issues impacting AOA CME accreditation and AOA GME initiatives; serves as a resource to CME providers regarding the AOA CME accreditation process and to GME leadership regarding ACGME accreditation and osteopathic recognition.
- Monitors adherence with ACCME accreditation standards for AOA-developed activities and activities jointly provided with partners.
- Presents at and participates in major conferences and committee meetings, providing AOA education related updates, serving on panels, and meeting with members of the CME and GME communities.
- Works with other AOA departments and staff to direct a collaborative effort to create high quality osteopathic CME, support AOA affiliates, increase visibility of AOA board certification, and enhance member value.
- Keeps informed of medical education issues, innovations, trends and feedback from CME providers, physicians, residents and students.
- Serves as a resource to other AOA team members on best practices and innovative approaches to CME development.
- Monitors the CME accreditation compliance for AOA-sponsored event DO Day and OMED.
- Develops and monitors adherence to education budget including meeting financial goals for AOA CME and ACCME Joint Providership.
- Facilitates development of reports on AOA activities to stakeholder organizations and sourcing of external education committee appointments.
- Collaborates with external educational organizations, AOA affiliates, and other healthcare associations to drive alignment on osteopathic education and other CME- and/or GME-related accreditation activities.
- Provide leadership, oversight, and guidance to staff, ensuring development supports best practices, quality benchmarks and exceptional customer service and
- Evaluates the departmental structure in support of continuous improvement, providing staff with growth opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION OR EQUIVALENTS
Education: Master’s degree preferred
Experience: At least 5 years in medical education leadership is required. Experience in accreditation, volunteer management, and supervision is essential.
Licensure or Certification: none
Systems: High proficiency in MS Office and learning management software preferred.
Special Skills: Proven interpersonal and diplomatic skills, including the ability to work with physicians, act as a liaison with various groups, and achieve consensus with disparate stakeholders; ability to interact credibly with those involved in medical education; demonstrated management (including developing and managing budgets) and team-building skills; Familiarity with osteopathic medical education, ACCME accreditation and ACGME accreditation.
Communications: Superior interpersonal, oral and written skills required; public speaking preferred.

This position is hybrid with attendance required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the AOA Chicago office. Occasional travel and evening meetings is required.
Physical demands include the ability to remain in a stationary position, the ability to move from one work site to another, the ability to operate office equipment and the ability to move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds.
