The Margin Strategy and Investment Optimization (MSIO) org is responsible for driving Microsoft cloud & AI capacity, margin excellence, and resource allocation rigor across Microsoft’s portfolio. Within MSIO, the Investment Optimization Strategy finance team is an exciting and fast-evolving team that partners deeply with engineering leaders to ensure $20B+ resources across 100K engineering full time employees (FTEs) are continuously aligned to strategic engineering priorities. We are looking for a Senior Finance Manager on the Cloud Hardware Infrastructure and Platform Finance (CHIP) Team to assist us in this critical work.
In this role, you will work closely with engineering leaders and support the Cloud, Operations, and Innovation (CO+I), Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP), and MCIO Networking organizations that are chartered with landing Microsoft’s datacenter and AI infrastructure strategy. This role partners with engineering, global talent acquisition, and finance to plan FTE headcount resources and implement a strategic workforce talent roadmap to support long-term capacity growth.
The ideal candidate has problem-solving ability at multiple altitudes (high-level strategy to tactical execution) and can navigate complexity and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
- Business and Finance Partnership: Provide leadership to the business and other finance teams with respect to financial management, resource prioritization, and allocation. Ensure investments are aligned to key priorities. Drive analytical and conceptual thinking with stakeholders that extends beyond the numbers into strategy. Influence a compliant culture through actions and education with stakeholders.
- Decision Support: Apply strategic thinking into FTE headcount resource planning to maximize engineering investments through industry intelligence and benchmarking. Provide deeper insight to enable leadership’s decision on where and how resources should be deployed. Give visibility to the current resource landscape and drive re-deployment discussions. Communicate trade-off scenarios and provide financial analysis for recommendations.
- Business Health and Planning: Lead finance rhythms with business partners (close, forecast, budget). Partner with stakeholders to craft the capacity investment story through business understanding and collaboration. Take a macro-level approach to analyze results, highlighting trends and key levers. Support Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Engineering Chief Vice President (CVP) reviews.
- Long Range Planning: Support long range planning (LRP) and target setting deliverables in alignment with stakeholder timelines. Set up a capacity-driven headcount framework for 3-year and 10-year roadmaps. Model and analyze key drivers to influence and drive future year planning decisions.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field
OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- Financial analysis experience in a high-tech company
- Experience in developing complex financial models and scenario analysis, quantitative analysis skills
- Ability to influence and impact without authority, operate in ambiguity, and solve difficult problems, combined with the ability to prioritize and function well in a dynamic and matrixed environment
- Interpersonal and cross-group collaboration skills. Ability to drive simplicity within a complex and matrix environment
- Proficient technical skills (Excel/Power BI and SQL)
Financial Analysis IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.
