Job Requirements / Description

Summary: Implements measures to provide safety and security for all guests, visitors, and employees and protects the Resort’s physical assets. Manages and budgets Security Department. Settles all claims against Resort in the amount of $10,000 or less.

Essential Job Functions: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees safety and security of Resort plant assets, guests, and employees.
  • Ensures adequate security staffing at all times.
  • Processes department payroll.
  • Processes employment and termination of all security personnel.
  • Administers discipline to security employees and assists other department managers with disciplinary administration when requested.
  • Maintains liaison with corporate headquarters and liability insurer in order to administer claims.
  • Investigates incidents occurring at the Resort which affect the safety and security of guests and staff, or which might result in a liability claim against the resort and then takes steps to improve safety/security or to reduce liability.
  • Maintains liaison with local law enforcement to promote cooperation.
  • Maintains monthly statistics for all incidents occurring at the resort, and reports these to the Resort Manager when requested.
  • Establishes and maintains adequate security procedures.
  • Gives house rules and the safety and security portion of orientation for new employees.
  • Supervises key control for the resort.
  • Maintains liaison with alarm monitoring companies to ensure proper coverage against fire, burglary, and armed robbery of resort facilities.
  • Processes background checks when requested by proper authority.
  • Patrols Resort property.
  • Directly supervises the Security Supervisor, Key Control Officer, and all Security Agents.
  • Full-Time Management position that requires a flexible schedule and the ability to work day/evening/night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience: Five years law enforcement or private security supervision experience required. Ability to work with the public, employees, and outside vendors and to coordinate activities with outside agencies. Knowledge of Florida hotel law and recent court decisions affecting the hospitality industry.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent communication skills – writing, telephone, and listening.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Thorough knowledge of the layout of the building, function rooms, and some knowledge of the city and surrounding areas.

Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit and continuously perform essential job functions for the duration of the shift. Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations. Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on the property. Ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 50 lbs. Sufficient manual dexterity in hands. Ability to climb stairs and ladders at a rapid pace.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working indoors and occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
