Company Overview

Tango Therapeutics is a biotechnology company dedicated to discovering novel drug targets and delivering the next generation of precision medicine for the treatment of cancer.

Using an approach that starts and ends with patients, Tango leverages the genetic principle of synthetic lethality to discover and develop therapies that take aim at critical targets in cancer.

This includes expanding the universe of precision oncology targets into novel areas such as tumor suppressor gene loss and their contribution to the ability of cancer cells to evade immune cell killing.

The Tango labs and offices are located at 201 Brookline Avenue, in the Fenway area of Boston, Massachusetts.

Summary

Tango Therapeutics is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Biochemist to join our Biochemistry group, reporting into the Senior Director, Biochemistry. You will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary drug discovery team dedicated to discovering drugs against novel cancer targets. The Senior Scientist will lead the effort in designing and developing biochemical and biophysical assays to support hit finding activities (including DEL and HTS) and hit validation, mechanism of action studies, lead identification, and optimization efforts. The candidate will be highly skilled in biochemical assay development, mechanistic enzymology, and familiar with diverse screening approaches. This individual will represent the Biochemistry department as a function lead in project teams and collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues across different disciplines to support and expand Tango’s early drug discovery portfolio.

Your Role:

  • You will design and develop in vitro biochemical and biophysical assays to support DEL, HTS and other hit-finding activities, and hit validation against novel targets.
  • Design and execute experiments to elucidate the mechanism of action of small molecule compounds.
  • Communicate, engage, and build positive relationships with external research teams at CROs to generate high-quality data within project timelines.
  • Evaluate and assess novel screen technologies and modalities.
  • Analyze, interpret, organize, report, and present data to project teams in a timely manner.
  • Capture research experimental design, data, and protocols using our electronic laboratory notebook system and employ strong laboratory organizational skills.
  • Contribute to novel cancer target identification and validation through detailed evaluation of published biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology information of candidate targets.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required.

What You Bring:

  • PhD in Enzymology, Biochemistry, or closely related discipline or Master’s degree with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience (post-doc and/or industry) required.
  • Expertise with in-vitro biochemical and biophysical assay design and development, and familiarity with a variety of assay formats, such as Fluorescence, Luminescence, AlphaLISA, SPR, Thermal shift, and MS-based detection assays required.
  • Hands-on experience in small molecule drug discovery, including high throughput compound library screening, hit validation, MoA characterization of small molecule candidates is strongly desired.
  • Strong background in biochemistry and biophysics, including an in-depth understanding of enzyme kinetics and mechanism-of-action studies preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize experiments.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with peers.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills are essential as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate results effectively to diverse audiences.
