In this role, the Cardiac Sonographer will perform pediatric transthoracic echocardiography studies as well as all aspects of echocardiographic imaging under the direct supervision of a Cardiac Sonographer II or III and under the general supervision of the Medical Director of the Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging Laboratory. The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital echocardiography experts perform many types of echo procedures, including transthoracic echocardiography, fetal echocardiography, and Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE). Comer Children's pediatric lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Pediatric, Fetal and Transesophageal Echocardiograms.
Essential Job Functions
- Preparing patients for Transthoracic echo and Stress Echo procedures, reviewing indications, comparing previous studies to accurately answer all questions by referring physician, and communicating with patients, customers, and staff in a respectful and compassionate manner.
- Utilizes Xcelera data archiving system and Electronic Medical Records system to record, charge and report procedures.
- Actively participates in process improvement activities.
- Involved in research and publications to be at the cutting edge of the field.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of clinical hours at accredited lab.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Obtaining registry status with either Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. You will be scheduled to work the Day shift, 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, and will be scheduled for on-call shifts. You will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work between Monday - Friday and one weekend shift every 6 weeks.
