Job brief:
Vertosa is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead the development and implementation of human resources strategies and initiatives that align with the company's mission, values, and business goals. This role will manage a range of human resource functions from recruitment and onboarding to performance management, compliance, and overall organizational development. The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate cross-functionally to foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and high-performance that supports our commitment to excellence and growth in the cannabis industry.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of HR strategies and initiatives, including a competitive compensation framework, hiring roadmap, and retention plan aligned with Vertosa's mission, values, and business goals.
  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle from role justification and job description development to recruiter engagement, interview management, and offer execution.
  • Implement effective onboarding and orientation programs to new hires.
  • Collaborate with department managers to understand hiring needs and build people plans for all departments.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing team to drive effective employer branding and role promotion efforts.
  • Manage the performance review program, ensuring alignment with the company's business objectives and culture of continual improvement.
  • Support managers in implementing professional development and performance improvement plans to proactively resolve issues, support career growth, and build organization-wide leadership capabilities.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and conflict resolution.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement programs, including team events and volunteering opportunities.
  • Conduct compensation and benefits benchmarking and analysis to drive competitiveness in the marketplace and foster employee retention.
  • Coordinate benefits and perks administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness programs.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate processing and reporting of payroll, benefits, and other cross-functional HR operations.
  • Manage and maintain accurate HR data across all relevant systems, including HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration platforms.
  • Produce and analyze reports on key HR metrics such as retention, employee satisfaction, and recruitment success.
  • Conduct regular feedback surveys to evaluate and continually improve employee satisfaction, retention, and core value alignment.
  • Provide thought leadership on HR trends, workforce planning, and organizational design
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of HR legal requirements, including FMLA, ADA, EEO, wage laws, and applicable cannabis industry regulations.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and regular review of HR policies, procedures, and training to ensure company compliance with all federal, state, and legal employment laws.
  • Prepare for and manage audits, including HRIS data, benefit, and compliance reviews.
  • Support the management of the HR budget and proactively communicate variations from forecasted amounts to Finance.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and high-performance across the organization.
  • Champion DEI initiatives to create a diverse and welcoming work environment in which all employees feel valued and empowered to contribute their best work.
Job requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in HR, with a strong understanding of HR functions, compliance, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Proficiency with HR software systems, including HRIS, ATS, payroll, and benefits platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to appropriately adapt to the needs of others.
  • Proven track record of successful project management, process improvement, and problem-solving in a high-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with expertise in data analysis to inform organizational decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and concisely to others.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the capacity to motivate and manage other team members while collaborating effectively with other departmental leaders.
  • Must be a passionate champion for cannabis, although Vertosa does not require cannabis consumption for any employees.
  • Bay Area location preferred and eligible for hybrid work
