Description:

Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, cooling, and gas piping systems in accordance with accepted procedures and techniques of the pipefitter trade.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. The Pipefitter repairs and maintains heating, cooling, and gas piping systems such as steam plant and building heat systems, hospital medical piped gas systems, building cooling water systems, and kitchen gas oven or refrigeration systems. He/she inspects work site to determine repairs needed, method of repair, supplies, and tools required. The Pipefitter then lays out, fabricates, and assembles piping and fixtures as required. The Pipefitter is responsible for transporting materials, tools, and equipment to the work site and installs and/or repairs piping systems.
  2. The Pipefitter installs heating, cooling, gas piping systems for new systems and small remodeling projects. The Pipefitter inspects the work site to determine method and place of installation and tools, equipment, and supplies to be used. The Pipefitter plans, lays out, fabricates, and assembles piping and fixtures required. The Pipefitter is responsible for transporting materials, tools, and equipment to the work site and installs and/or repairs piping systems.
  3. The Pipefitter maintains, repairs, and calibrates heating and cooling systems' controls.
  4. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. A. Certificate of completion of Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program.
  2. OR
  3. B. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter or other Pipetrade classification with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, and/or Oil Burner Mechanics.
