POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer for Trinity Health Michigan Medical Groups and Chief IT Strategy and Planning Officer, Trinity Information Services.

The Vice President, Medical Group Information Technology leads all functions of information technology for the medical group including, but not limited to, strategic planning, system development, technology operations, application support, central medical records and project management. Exceptional service that enables frontline providers and colleagues to focus on patient care is the essence of this role.

The Vice President will also participate in developing Trinity Health-wide IT strategy and improving Medical Group performance through Common IT Platform adoption. This role will be critical in the successful development of systems, policies, workflows and organizational structures that will enable the growth of the Trinity Health Community Division.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides exceptional service to frontline providers and colleagues.
  • Drives adoption of Common Platforms in the Medical Group, in partnership with Trinity Information Services and Trinity Health Medical Groups.
  • Participates in the assessment of Common Platforms for Medical Groups.
  • Develops systems for evaluating fit and medical group readiness, implementation, ongoing support and optimization.
  • Shapes delegated authority policies between business users, local IT leadership and Trinity Information Services.
  • Builds strong relationships with leaders at Trinity Health and Medical Groups.
  • Advocates for the needs of Medical Groups.
  • In collaboration with Trinity Information Services, Trinity Health Medical Group leadership and Michigan Medical Group executive leadership, creates vision, strategic plan and annual plan for the deployment, operation and support of technology in the Medical Group.
  • Drives financial performance and value of the IT organization.
  • Develops and manages to budget for Information Technology department.
  • Assesses ROI of IT investments on an ongoing basis.
  • Determines total cost of ownership of IT assets.
  • Relentlessly seeks improvements in performance from IT investments.
  • Builds, maintains and operates technology infrastructure to support high levels of performance within the medical group.
  • Leads organization’s response to IT events, including outages, cybersecurity responses.
  • Develops policies, procedures, education, training and systems to protect data and network.
  • Cultivates strong leadership skills within the IT Team.
  • Develops a customer/patient-focused culture of support.
  • Establishes and measures performance goals and objectives for direct management reports and providing guidance to the managers for performance goals of their reports.
  • Provides direction to directors and managers when team or individual performance is not meeting expectations or established goals.
  • Ensures optimal recruitment, development, retention and coaching of IT staff.
  • Provides technology subject matter expertise to executive team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: None

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years progressive experience in Information Systems with at least five (5) years of experience at the leadership level, responsible for leading an IT discipline in a complex environment. Preference given to individuals with experience in defining and implementing information systems in a multi-location, multidisciplinary environment. Healthcare and medical group experience preferred but not required.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

  • Demonstrated experience in talent acquisition, support of complex employee relations issues, performance management, employee communication and/or change management.
  • Ability to coordinate, direct and supervise the work of others.
  • Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including but not limited to, EMR software, Microsoft Word and Excel, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required while performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Experience leading clinical projects in medium to large healthcare environments.
  • Direct experience in the specific technical areas of data center operations, the physical and virtual server environment, the SAN environments, the wide area network, the local area network, desktop and end user devices, and the VOIP telephony infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette. Ability to speak before groups of people, either in-person or virtual, and resolve conflict in situations where the audience may be less than receptive.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively, in a courteous and friendly demeanor, within all levels of the organization, and diverse populations including IHA staff, family members, insurance carriers, and vendors.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities, time constraints and large volumes of work.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for appropriate and effective response.
  • Ability to handle IHA staff and organizational information in a confidential manner.
  • Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period.

  • Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face for long periods of time in English.
