Job Summary
Provides assistance to women, neonates, and infants in the Pediatric Heart Center who are attempting to establish and/or maintain breastfeeding. Promotes long term breastfeeding success through consultation and support services. Develops, implements, and evaluates breastfeeding education for families, patients, and staff.
This position requires the flexibility to orient and provide supportive coverage for all BCH Units as needed. This position is a Contract position.
The position will support the following: 1) participate in daily patient area rounds 1-2 times per week (inform team of lactation and breast feeding progress), 2) actively participate in weekly GRAND Rounds, 3) consult on all cardiac neonates in the ICN, CICU and CTCU to provide education, support for breast pumping, breast feeding readiness, and breast feeding assistance, 4) provide CICU and CTCU RN education on breast pumping and breast feeding, 5) work closely with occupation therapy on breast feeding or bottle feeding breast milk including the development of safe breast feeding guidelines, 6) collaborate with the Home Monitoring Program to identify and follow high risk infants after discharge for breast feeding and growth assessment, 7) identify and collaborate on quality improvement initiatives specific to breast feeding, feeding tolerance and growth, and 8) in collaboration with the dietician, assure compliance with the GRAND Newborn Feeding Guidelines.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $84.78 - $109.85 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of experience as a Pediatric Cardiac RN
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
- International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current IBCLC Certification
License/Certification
