POSITION PURPOSE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage the counseling center's APA-accredited doctoral internship program in professional psychology.
  2. Evaluate trainees' performance, and implement remediation plan when performance is inadequate.
  3. Communicate with graduate programs, external training programs, and accrediting bodies regarding trainees and the training program.
  4. Participate in the national organization for university counseling center training agencies.
  5. Develop (ongoing) the philosophy of the training program in conjunction with the Director and other staff, and regularly update policies and procedures in line with this philosophy and expectations of APA.
  6. Prepare written materials regarding the training program.
  7. Oversee the annual selection of trainees.
  8. Evaluate the efficacy of the training program and recommend updates and adjustments as appropriate.
  9. Manage data regarding the training program in order to facilitate reporting to graduate programs as well as document impact and outcomes for local audiences.
  10. Serve as a member of the center's leadership team. Act as Director's designee when appropriate for clinical and emergency coverage.
  11. Chair standing Training Committee.
  12. Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment. Understanding the role of trauma (historical, community, family, and personal) in wellness and recovery is key. Cultural proficiency and expertise working with BIPOC students is required.
  13. Oversees development of new training programs if there is need and capacity within the Counseling Center.
  14. Provide initial/intake assessments, crisis intervention, and short-term individual, group, and couple counseling for enrolled University of Washington students.
  15. To support the mental health of individuals from underrepresented and marginalized communities to promote student retention and graduation.
  16. To provide crisis assessment and intervention when students present in distress.
  17. Provide individual supervision of doctoral interns.
  18. Teach training seminars on topics of expertise and interest.
  19. Provide outreach presentations to student groups, classrooms, and others as requested.
  20. Provide professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, family and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges to enhance the campus climate for student success.
  21. Attend regular counseling center staff meetings and participate in other meetings and duties as appropriate.
  22. Be part of an interdisciplinary team designed to enhance the mental health of UW students, create a healthier and more inclusive campus climate, and to respond to mental health crises.
  23. Engage in other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Doctoral Degree in Counseling/Clinical Psychology.
  2. 4-5 years of experience (can include internship) providing mental health counseling with college-aged clients, preferably in a university counseling center.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Licensure in the state of Washington as a licensed psychologist for more than two years, which allows for clinical supervision of interns.
  2. Evidence of outstanding skills in clinical assessment, psychotherapy and counseling, crisis management, and psycho-education.
  3. Demonstrated cultural proficiency and deep experience serving diverse populations.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice.
  5. Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple administrative and clinical responsibilities.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong organizational skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Prior experience in administration of training program at masters or doctoral level.
  2. Four to five years of post-doctoral professional experience.
  3. Experience working in a university counseling center.
  4. Experience working with trauma.
  5. Experience providing gender affirming care.
  6. Experience providing treatment via telehealth technology.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus colleagues.
