Technician roles are posted at all levels 1, 2, and Senior and will be filled based on skills, certifications and experience.
The Cage Wash Technician will be engaged in cleaning animal cages, and ancillary equipment, and the maintenance and cleaning of laboratory facility/equipment. Some responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing animal caging and ancillary equipment including but not limited to use and maintenance of pressure washers and rack washers. Understand the functions and operations of all cage wash equipment. There will be data collection and review, cleaning of empty animal rooms, performing and documenting routine inspection and maintenance activities, and some maintenance including, but not limited to, automatic watering system maintenance, boiler maintenance, and generator maintenance. This is a non-exempt role that is eligible for overtime after 40 hours in a work week and has no supervisor responsibilities.
Some requirements include HS Diploma/GED or 3 years of janitorial or animal care support. You must have the ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery and have some knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies. This role works predominately in a laboratory setting. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of and/or exposure to animal tissues and zoonotic organisms. Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including respirators. Physical activity including lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing, and ascending ladder without restriction. Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Ability to spend most of the day standing and/or walking. Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts with short notice.
